During deployment / installation, how can I change the default search provider, and delete other search providers? I don't want google to be the default search.

I want to make DuckDuckGo my default search provider in firefox, delete some other search providers, and ensure google isn't the default. This doesn't seem possible to script, change programatically, or change in the about:config page. Is there a way to do this? How do you do it?

Chosen solution

You can do this with the policies.json file (see Customize Firefox using policies.json) or Group Policy on a Windows system (see Customize Firefox using Group Policy (Windows)) using the SearchEngines policy.

However, this will only work if you are deploying the Firefox ESR version. This won't work on the standard Firefox Rapid Release version.

You can do this with policies. What version of Firefox are you deploying?
