Since you have a PPC or PowerPC instead of a Intel system the version of official builds of Firefox and Thunderbird you can run on a PPC are rather old and vulnerable. For Intel users using OSX 10.5.x the last Thunderbird and Firefox version to work was 16.0.2.

There has been a third-party option for Firefox users on PPC systems for some years now at http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

There is also or was a Thunderbird option for PPC at https://tenfourbird.osdn.jp/
