1-Step Permanently Delete emails?

Is there a 1-step process to permanently delete directly from the Inbox? Now I delete from the Inbox, or the Sent file, and then have to delete again from the Trash file? I often know immediately that I'll never want to see something again. Just permanently delete it.

Chosen solution

Hi Mary, There are a couple of things you can do.

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Shift-Delete to bypass the Trash folder.
  • You can use the retention policy feature to have messages in the Trash folder automatically removed after a specific number of days. Right-click on the Trash folder and select Properties, then select the Retention Policy tab, uncheck Use my account settings and set the policy you prefer. I have mine set to one week.
