There was a power outage. 2 apps were running. They didn't work on my account on the computer, but did on the other account on the computer. I redownloaded 1 app and that fixed the issue. I redownloaded firefox. It said the "firefox is already running. Please close Firefox prior to launching the verison you have just installed." I went to task manager and made sure that it wan't running and tried to open it again. Repeated. No change. Searched the computer for firefox. Looked at files that had todays date. They would not open up the browser. Checked task manager for open firefox windows and closed them out. Tried the start menu instead of the desktop shortcut. That didn't work.

The version of firefox that was running was 57.0.3.

I have Windows 10 home. Version 1709 OS Build 16299.125

Processor AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.0 Ghz

Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.68 usable)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Chosen solution

Your Profile folder is probably locked due to Firefox not being properly closed when that power outage occurred. See this support article for a probable solution. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-already-running-not-responding

Go to your local department / electronics store and look around for a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) that is useful for you. The lowest price is $50 + -. There are also units on the market that plug into the computer. So if the battery gets low, it will shut down the computer to protect it.
