I have just returned home from abroad and for the first time ever Thunderbird is asking for a password (don't know it) before it will let me send an email.
Hello,
I have just returned home to Spain from the UK and am trying to respond to urgent incoming emails. But Thunderbird asks for a password - which I don't recollect because I have never had to provide it previously - before it will send an email. Incoming messages are still arriving but I cannot respond to them. Can someone please explain to me in non-technical language what the problem is. It seems too much of a coincidence that the problem first occurred the first time I tried to send an email after arriving home so it seems to be something to do with my having been emailing in the UK for a few days.
Most of the help/troubleshooting info is attached (hit 10k character limit).

Why do you have all this extra stuff posted? You had to enter your password when you configured your original setup of TB. The easiest thing to do would be--go to gmail.com and set up another email ady. Then go to TB and add another mail account. This time either write down or save to your normal place where you save all your passwords--you probably have hundreds of them--all different. Then using your new email ady--reply to your emails and ask that folks change to your new email ady.

You may be an IT expert but I am not. In researching possible answers to my problem I noted requests for troubleshooting data under "help" so I provided it in a spirit of helpfulness. Your question comes across to me as rather abrupt and critical but am sure you did not mean for it to do so.
As for changing my email account, I would have to notify a very large number of people and organisations which is a waste of time and fraught with the risk of forgetting someone important or people not taking note of it. That was my experience when I last changed my address and I don't want to go through that experience again. Surely there is a reason why TB is asking me for a password.
Since the original post I have found the password so am back responding to emails but having to keep providing the password. It would be really fantastic if someone could kindly tell me how to resolve the IT issue so I don't have the inconvenience of either changing my email address or constantly having to input my password.

Changing addresses is pretty drastic. Not sure I understand that suggestion.
When you are asked for a password is there a check box to tell Thunderbird to remember it? If so use that.
If you go to Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords Click Show Passwords Is there a password saved for both incoming and outgoing servers?
FYI: You provided the Troubleshooting info for Firefox. The info for Thunderbird would be more helpful.
Thank you very much for your helpful response. I try to find the simplest solution, or at least solutions somewhat less drastic than that suggested by the previous contributor. I am asked for a password when I open Thunderbird so will look out for the check box when I open it next time.
You spotted my deliberate mistake! Sorry about that. I was trying to copy and paste the troubleshooting info for TB but failed miserably.
