The Firefox Release builds for Linux from Mozilla already has updates if you are using the tarballs from say from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all

Make sure the Firefox folder has read/write permission if you use this version so Firefox can get updates.

Only if you acquired Firefox this way and not the tarballs from say www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Third-party builds this way are not updated by Mozilla but are provided by the Linux distro you are using. Sometimes they are fast or slow in response.
