Sorry, where should I look to see your Troubleshooting Information? It isn't here on the forum (as far as I can see) and I haven't seen anything in the private messaging inbox.

The problem is I can't remove an unwanted account because Remove Account is greyed out and I can't set the one I use all the time, as right now, because Set as Default is greyed. You have two accounts. One is the built-in "Local Folders" account, which a) you are not allowed to delete (Thunderbird needs it) and b) is not a true "working" account (it has nowhere to set up servers so cannot, of itself, either send or receive messages) and so cannot be set as default.
The second is your cox.net which is your sole working account and therefore is your default account. Therefore you cannot delete it until you install a further account that can be made the default.
So, neither of your accounts is eligible to be deleted. Hence "Remove account" is greyed out.
Which one did you want to delete? If you were to remove the cox.net account then Thunderbird would be of very little use to you, and it would nag you to set up an account.
Thanks again. First, in TB's left panel, nowhere does it say "Local Folders." It does say All Folders. If I click the down arrow the list shows All Folders, Unused Folders, Favorite Folders, and Unified Folders. The mail account I use has a User Name@cox.net. The account I want to remove has a User name2 but no Domain name. It is a remant of an aborted attempt to create a new email account years ago. From your response I take it that there is nothing stopping me from creating a new email account, making it Default, and then removing that pesky remnant, Username2. Correct? Thank you very much for your help.
"All Folders" should show a list of your accounts, and there should normally be both Local Folders and the cox account listed here.
However if you had set up the cox account using POP and set it to use the Global Inbox then it won't be visible in that folder pane. But you would see the Local Folders account. It is possible to re-name the Local Folders account so that could be why you don't see that specific name.
But if you want to delete the cox.net account, yes, you need to install another account first, set the new account as default and then you'll be allowed to remove the old cox.net account.
Thanks. All Folders does't show a Local Folders and that name doesn't appear on the list from the drop down arrow. I did set it up using POP. I can't recall setting it up to use a Global inbox. I checked and mail in put in UserName@cox.net.
Here is what my Folder Pane looks like.
Thunderbird has Local Folders by default and it contains some folders such as the Sent folder for newsgroups and the Outbox that can't live anywhere else.
If you can't see a Local Folders then it is there (we can see it in your accounts list) but must be hiding under a different name.

I learned long ago that one can make an innocent looking change in TB and wierd unexpected things can happen. SW developers are more like "artists," whatever that is in SW, than engineers.
To repeat, I have an account which I use, say One@cox.net, and an unwanted other, lets call it Two, without a domain name or most of everything else associated with setting up an account. I made the mistake of changing its User Name under Server Settings, say to Three, hoping tht TB would allow me to Remove the Account, but Remove Account is still greyed out. So I reverted back to its original Two name. Incidentally One and Two are the same User Name, just that Two has no Domain Name attached to it.
But unexpectedly, now when I use One@cox.ne TB always asks me for a Password for Two! I have no PW for Two, but I enter the PW for One@cox.net and only then can I receive emails. If you have any suggestions for removing this pesky PW request, I will sincerely appreciate it.

I can only guess that you have renamed the Local Folders account.
You can't remove it, and you shouldn't try. End of story.
It's there for a reason. If you don't have any use for it, then you're missing out on several good things that Thunderbird can do. Just learn to ignore it.
