Entering multiple addresses using a symbol separator

I use Thunderbird as the e-mail client for my accounting software. This allows me to send invoices, purchase orders etc. directly from the accounting package. Some customers require that invoices be sent to multiple recipients, however my accounting package only gives me 1 field for an e-mail address. The 1 field will accept many characters so it would be to my advantage to enter the multiple recipients using a symbol as a separator. For eg. larry@thunderbird.com; moe@thunderbird.com; curly@thunderbird.com Is there a way to make this work?
