Quick Alarm doesn't work correctly

When I go to use the Quick Alarm feature it doesn't time correctly. If I put in 5 minutes it doesn't go off for something like 985 minutes. (I didn't write down the exact but is was 900 and some) The longer I set the Alarm for the longer it takes to go off. When I first started using Thunderbird it worked fine but has been messed up for at least several up dates.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and can it be fixed?

is this related to an add-on? I am not aware of a Thunderbird feature for doing any sort of alarms.
