lot of notes folders
Thunderbird email. The left-hand pane, which lists my Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk etc, has recently started adding folders labeled "Notes" plus folders labeled "Outbox". I now have about 50 of each, and the number is increasing daily, The folders are all empty.
What has caused this, and how can I prevent it happening

Thank you!
Hi Matt, many thanks for your response. I tried to follow your link to take a screenshot, but unfortunately failed at the first hurdle. The link says "On Ubuntu, click the Applications menu". I don't know what an "Application menu" is, so I clicked on "Ubuntu Help"/"Find Applications.....with Dash", and following the instructions, put "Accessories" in the Dash "Search" box. I got "Sorry there is nothing that matches your search"
My question - Where is the "Application menu" for me to click on it?
(Don't we click on buttons, not menus, and "Select" from menus? Very confusing for someone of low IQ like me.)
Looks like the instructions do not allow for unity.

Hi Matt. The instructions in your latest link do work. That's a brilliant program - I've added it to my Launcher.
Back to the original problem - it has now gone away, as suddenly as it arrived. No more Notes and Outbox folders are appearing.
The problem was present too on my Outlook web-site. I now think that my "Hotmail" emails are processed and stored on a Microsoft Outlook server, which is accessed by Mozilla Thunderbird. Last night I deleted all the Notes and Outbox entries in the Left-hand pane, first on the Outlook website and then on the Thunderbird page, one by one. I think there were 128 of each, because Microsoft say the maximum number of characters allowed in a Folder name is 256, and the names were Notes 0, Notes 0_0 Notes 0_0_0 etc. They have not re-appeared, yet.
I shall re-post, including a screenshot, if they re-appear.
I also had the problem that multiple copies of ALL my emails kept appearing, up to about a hundred of each, as fast as I deleted them. This too has gone away now.
There are issues I know with outlook, but this is the first I have heard of multiple folders of any kind.
/Have you installed an add-on in Thunderbird that allows you to make nots on emails?
