The owner of accounts.google.com has configured their website improperly.
Once again, after an automatic update by Firefox, I am receiving error messages trying to connect to sites I regularly visit. THIS time the error occurred while I was actually on a site. One minute all is fine, the next I hit the back button and I'm receiving this mesaage:
"The owner of accounts.google.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.
This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."
I am now blocked from such minor websites as Google, Gmail, Facebook, YouTube, eBay and several sites I use on a daily basis for business so I need to get this pain in the posterior Firefox nonsense fixed fast.
I have had to resort to using Chrome or, GOD FORBID, IE to access these sites but they are in no way shape or form my preference.
I am running Windows 8.1 64bit and until 2 days ago had no problem with my system. I rum Advanced System Care Ultimate 9 for security with their accompanying anti-malware software.
Would someone be so kind as to tell me how I can get access to the websites Firefox has blocked me from? I have already read and attempted the procedures suggested in previous answers with no success.
One last thing; I have 3 laptops and to date I am having access issues consistently on one and intermittently on the other.
Thanks for whatever suggestions or fixes come my way.

OK, I just figured it out.
The problem was with AdFender.
When I turned it off I got all my access back.
I don't know if this is a new issue with them but it definitely is for me.
Thanks for all you time.

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky and BitDefender and ESET that intercepts secure connections and sends their own certificate or that incorporates special web shielding features that can block content.
See:
If you can't inspect the certificate via Advanced (I Understand the Risks) then try this:
Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:
- chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul
In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website with the https:// protocol prefix (https://xxx.xxx).
- retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
- click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer
You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then please attach a screenshot that shows the Certificate Viewer with the issuer.
Okay. I'm not sure how this worked as when I clicked "Get Certificate" I got the message that the certificate couldn't be viewed.
Whatever happened I'm not going to question success.
Thanks much.
hi, what is the error code shown when you click on advanced on that error page? please also give us more information about the error by clicking on the error code, copying the text to the clipboard (like shown in the screenshot) and then pasting it here into a reply in the forum. thank you!
Actually, after working for a few hours Firefox reverted back to the Insecure Connection warning.
The error code is SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER
Whatever that means.
Considering that the sites affected are Google, Gmail, and other sites I have routinely visited for years the problem is not on their end.
Thanks.
