When you single click on an email to open email in the Message Pane, is it still blank?
Possible reasons: This is an imap mail account and you are in 'Offline mode' and have not synchronised that folder for offline use. Remedy:
- synchronise folder for offline use.
That folders index has gone out of synch with the contents of the actual mbox file storing the emails. Remedy:
- Right click on folder and select 'Properties'
- click on 'Repair folder' button
- click on OK
- choose another folder and then reselect folder.
If the 'folder repair' does not work:
The index is now aligned with the actual folder, but the 'blank' emails in the list have now disappeared as well.
First you need to understand that reindexing did not delete the emails., they were already gone.
It is highly likely that your Anti-Virus software has either quarantined or attempted to fix the mbox file and has completely messed it up/corrupted it or deleted it. As it had no knowledge of the indexing file, it was left alone so appearing to still have messages to point to.
It is suggested that if you scan emails or any Thunderbird folder on startup then it is better to set the Anti-virus to ask you what to do rather than auto dealing with it. Even better, turn off scanning of any Thunderbird folder on startup and also turn off scanning of emails. Remote content is auto disabled by default. Recommend you do not have 'View' > 'Display Attachments Inline' auto selected. Opening attachments using appropriate software can still be scanned.
When I single click the message displays in a pane below the inbox. It doesn't display when I double click to open a new window.
