I set my account to 'Delete messages more than 30 days old' (don't ask) I did manage to change back but not before a large number of emails have been deleted both locally and on the server I have a backup but when I restore the profile almost immediately TB resyncs with IMAP and I'm back where I started How do I make IMAP sync with TB whereas at the moment it appears the other way around? In short I have the emails (in the backup profile) but can't figure out how to get them back in to IMAP

Chosen solution

would the follwoing steps work?

That should work.

Why does copying work when just retsoring the profile didn't?

I'm not sure what you mean. Putting it that way is like comparing apples and oranges. We're talking about two different things here.

You'll need to restore the messages to a folder underneath 'Local Folders'. Then upload them to the server. For a large number of messages don't drag and drop. Select the messages in the source folder - right-click a selected messages - Copy To - chose destination folder. Don't copy a large number of messages at once, do that in batches. Once you verified the messages have been copied successfully, delete them in the source folder.

Hi christ1, Thank you for your quick response, would the follwoing steps work?

  • disconnect the internet to stop sync
  • restore backed up profile
  • copy affected folders to 'Local Folders'
  • reconnect internet and allow sync
  • delete affected folders form IMAP account
  • copy folders from 'Local Folders' to IMAP account
