Chosen solution

This is a standard list display on a computer. Click where it says Name and it should sort on that column. Click again and it will re-sort in reverse order. You can do the same in Thunderbird's Thread pane (i.e. where you see your Inbox's contents) and in Windows Explorer and many other file managers.

For finer control of the sorting in Thunderbird's Address Book, use the Menu. View|Show Name As lets you adjust the display of the name. View|Sort By lets you arrange sorting on all available columns.

If you can't see a Menu, hold down the <alt> key and tap the v key.
