I did not actively choose adblock plus, did it come with a mozilla firefox update?

I suddenly noticed the red AdBlock Plus symbol at the top of my browser. I know I didn't put it there, so I am wondering if this came with a Firefox update (I don't read the fine print.) or is it an unasked for program that installed itself without my permission.

Why are you a former adblock user?

7 months ago there were issues with Adblock Plus using too many resources, and with the new PC I had just built I decided to try uBlock Origin instead. So I just kept using that for blocking advertisements, plus it is less complicated to use - has less "options" for the user to fiddle with.

NO, there are never any extensions installed during a Firefox program update.

Although if Adblock Plus was already installed, but that "Button" wasn't on the Toolbar an update could have moved it back to the Toolbar where it was originally installed (as I recall being a former Adblock Plus user).

Thank you. I am debating whether I should remove it. It seems like something that would track me while serving the purpose of blocking ads, if it even does that.

Hi,

@elihu Adblock Plus never track you or collect any user data !

Thank you to all who replied. I found the answer, my son downloaded it. He rarely changes things on the machine, but I figured it out.
