Is it possible to update FFOS to a later version without the OEM manufacturer?

I'm running the Alcatel onetouch fire E. The latest version is 2.0.0 on my phone. That version is almost a year old. Is there a possibility to update to a later version without the OEM manufacturer? I'm also fine with removing the OEM FFOS and replacing it with the 'original' FFOS.

hi, alcatel hasn't made an update to Firefox OS higher than 2.0 available for the onetouch fire e (yet?). this phone is a consumer-centred device with a locked bootloader and there is no official support for flashing images that don't get supplied by alcatel or the respective network operators: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Phone_guide/Alcatel_One_Touch_Fire_E

however, in principle it is possible to root the device: http://blog.vosnax.ru/2015/04/27/Rooting-an-Alcatel-Fire-E-6015x/ i haven't seen any community efforts to get custom firefox os builds for this device yet though...
