The tool button at the top of my Thunderbird email does not have a "open Add-on" option. I have an add-on downloaded from Mozilla, how can I add to Thunderbird

Maybe there is another tool button somewhere, but the only one I can find is when I am writing a new message. I have 4 options under the tool button; mail and newsgroup, address book, account settings, and options. No where in these 4 can I find "open Add-on". I have downloaded a recommended highlighter add-on for Thunderbird from Mozilla, (Highlighter 0.6.5 by Andre Rodier) but I just can't figure out how to get it into Thunderbird! Thanks for your help.

You defiantly do not use the Menu Bar in a Write window.

You need to learn the Windows shortcut to display hidden Menu Bars. The alt key or F10 displays hidden menu bars.

From the MAIN WINDOW Menu Bar select Tools-Add-ons Click the Gear icon and select Install Add-on from file

The other option is to use the AppMenu button. It is 3 horizontal lines. There is an Add-on choice under that menu.
