I had a similar situation where an old laptop died and with it went my address book, but it wasn't as bad as I first feared because your contacts details are also in the history of sent & received emails, and as I was using IMAP I got all the history back as soon as I installed Thunderbird on the new laptop.
It was a bit of a pain at first but Thunderbird soon builds up your contacts list again.

Do you mean that you looked in the Address Book and it was empty?
Or that some place where you are used to seeing contacts isn't visible any more?
Which version of Thunderbird? Windows, Mac or Linux? Which version?
I had contacts saved,but I cant find them,anywere
thunderbird windows
tekat, you need to be specific when answering questions.
Q: Do you mean that you looked in the Address Book and it was empty? You answered :I had contacts saved obviously you had them saved somewhere, but that does not answer the question nor offer anything useful.
Do you store your contacts in the Thunderbird 'Address Book' ? What is that address book called? Is that specific address book still there, but when you select it, it is empty? Or is that address book completely missing?
Q: Or that some place where you are used to seeing contacts isn't visible any more? If not Thunderbird Address Book, then explain.
Q: Which version of Thunderbird? Windows, Mac or Linux? Which version?
You said: Thunderbird - yes that was expected...but what version? Are yiou using the latest version which is 38.3.0 ? You said: Windows OS: XP ? Vista ? Win 7, Win 8, Win10 ...what version ?
