Sounds like you have Microsoft XPS Document Writer selected instead of your printer. As Matt stated that is not a Thunderbird error. It is user error selecting the wrong printer. After the printer dialog box opens, Thunderbird is done. It is your printer and your operating system at that point. Make sure your printer is showing in the dialog box and not the XPS Writer. If you have mistakenly made the XPS writer your default printer use the Windows control panel to fix that.

If you are talking about the printer control panel with the list of queued documents, that is a Windows dialog. Thunderbird simply passes printing to the Windows print spooler. The print spooler manages the printing for all windows applications. Your intermittent issue is a Windows not a Thunderbird issue. But could well be related to the computer or the printer entering sleep mode.

Thanks, Matt, but it doesn't solve my problem. My printer is working fine and I am able to copy emails into Open Office Writer and print from there. Thunderbird seems to transfer the email into my documents library instead of to the printer?? Thanks again. Byron

could you get a screen capture of this next time it happens and post it. I am getting lost in descriptions.

When I hit print, I get a popup showing "Title - about:blank and Progress - Preparing..." When I hit the X I get another popup showing "THUNDERBIRD IS NOT RESPONDING If you close the program you may lose information --> Close the Program --> Wait for the program to respond When I click "Wait..." I go back to the "Preparing" popup When I click "Close..." I get another popup THUNDERBIRD IS NOT RESPONDING Windows is checking for a solution to the problem in a few seconds I get my "Documentation Library" with File name *.xps Save as XPS Document Hitting "Save" does nothing

Thanks, Airmail. My Brother printer was selected as the default under devices in the control panel and I had made no changes, but I did find the XPS Writer also listed under devices. I removed it and was able to print successfully. Thanks again. Byron
