I was typing message and apparently hit a wrong key. When I looked up the in-box was blank and a message said "done compacting". Now I lost the composed message

My in-box messages are now gone. Can I get them back?

Also, I keep all my trash messages because I look at them from time to time. Some time ago the compacted messages were still available to view. Now they are not, only the header is viewable. Can the compacted messages be retrieved in any way?
