thunderbird is getting boxes i need nor want, f.i. archives. please stop this.
Thunderbird had created (and is still creating) boxes I don't need nor want, for instance an out box and archives 2014. i create my own boxes, getting unasked for extra ones is rather annoying: by now there are such a lot i had to delete some of my own boxes in order to be able to see them all at a glance.
Chosen solution
it solves my problem partly. when i've written an email generally i post i directly and if not (because i want to take another look before sending) it i keep it as a concept. i've no use for an outbox at all. i would love to get rid of it!

Well the Outbox is a default and needed folder. It is where your mail goes to be sent. It would have been there since you installed Thunderbird.
Archive folders are created when YOU decide to archive a message. The shortcut to archive a message is the letter a so you might be doing it accidentally but you are doing it not Thunderbird.

Thanks to you i've just deleted the box archives 2014. But there is still the box archives, an empty box which i unfortunately can't delete. i would love to get rid of that one too!
You might not see a need but EVERY mail you send passes through the Outbox of any email client that you might be using. That is how email client software works.
why then make a box for outgoing mail? the mail passes several digital points on the internet which aren't mentioned either. ;-) every step doesn't have to be mentioned, does it?
Ask the people that created email standards. That is outside the scope of this Thunderbird help forum.
true, and thanks for your answer. but do you know an address where i can contact them about it?
No I do not. Don't you have anything better to worry about like maybe the expiration date on the eggs in your refrigerator?
seeing that i had to delete some of my self created boxes for organising my email when mozilla created these unasked for boxes in order to stay able to view all my email boxes at a glance i do care indeed. and i would love to learn how i could get rid of these extra mozilla boxes. if you regard that equal as worrying about the expire date on eggs in the fridge, then so be it.
I already told you they are default boxes for Thunderbird and cannot be deleted. Sorry I cannot help you anymore. Good luck.
you're mistaken. the out box wasn't there the first time when i thunderbird installed. i got it as a result from an update. as far as i'm concerned: in this respect a most regrettable update.
Your right. I am mistaken. I have only answered questions and provided support for Thunderbird for a year and you just happen to scroll down to the bottom of the account list a discover the Outbox that has been in every version of Thunderbird ever put out. How silly of me!
