I have rooted my ZTE Open C with these tools: http://en.comebuy.com/developer-firefox-os-open-c.html and now, when I'm trying to update software using "software up" option, the phone gives me following messages:

E: failed to verify whole-file signature E: signature verification failed Package corrupt. Update failed.

Wiping cache partition doesn't help.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Mozilla Support about your issue. We are glad to assist you with your problem. After reading your issue, I would like to kindly ask you to update your device and applications if applicable.

Please check for updates by following these instructions:

Note: It is recommended to download updates over Wi-fi for preventing data usage charges.

  1. Open the Settings application by tapping the Settings App (small) icon.
  2. Tap the Device Information button.
  3. Tap the Check now button.
  4. A notification will appear in the notification bar if an update is available.
  5. Swipe down the notification bar to get to the utility tray and install the updates.

Did this fix your problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you!

Hi,

so far I only tried to update manually, via "software up" thingy. I tried to follow your instructions now, but don't really see "check now" button in "Device information" menu. The only update available is the one I get when using "Software up", but as I said it's not working for me (see original question).

Thanks for your answer.

Hi bazujewicz,

The ZTE Open C uses a different method of updating than what Albarr Muzarin described. As you mentioned, it is updated by the "Software Update" application.

If you are having issues updating your device, please contact the manufacturer. They are responsible for optimizing and testing the builds against Firefox OS devices.

In the meantime, I will also inform our internal contacts about this issue.

Thanks,

- Ralph

Hi Ralph,

I contacted both ZTE support and ebay seller. ZTE didn't say anything interestenting and the seller sent me funny answer:

"Hi there,

you mean cannot update software? this phone is rooted in factory in order to add laugauage, it may not support update saoftware, when the phone remind you to update, pls just ignore it"

For some reason they didn't mention it in item description while it was on ebay, so I asked them for a return address. Seller name is "gerter12399" - just in case someone thinks of buying fancy Firefox mobile from them.

Hi bazujewicz,

as far as I know, the build from Comebuy is not an official build and therefore can not have a valid signature. Anyway the rooted build seems to be the same version as the latest official one for Zte Open C. So you really do not need to update at the Moment.

If you want to get back to official build, you can follow this unbrick instructions, which helped me a lot: https://github.com/martensms/zte-openc-rootkit

Hi P.J. Fry,

I already spent several hours making this phone actually work as there were some issues with it from the very beginning (e.g. it didn't recognize SD card making it impossible to take photos, listen to the music and so on). I tried many solutions found on the web, but they all failed to work as I couldn't really use any tools, such as fast boot, due to it's dodgy software and doubtful "root". I don't really feel confident enough to experiment any more, and I meant to use this phone on a daily basis, so I don't really like the idea of updates not being available. I'm returning the phone to the seller and will try to get some other FFOS device.

Thanks for all support
