Hi norvell84,

For more information on how to port Firefox OS, you can go to MDN (Mozilla Developer Network):

Please be aware that this is for advanced users, and as Andrew mentioned - it can brick your device leaving it completely unusable.

Thanks,

- Ralph

It might be possible if you know what you're doing with the tablet. There is always the risk of bricking the tablet and leaving it completely unusable.

Hi,

When will the mobile Firefox OS be available in the US? I'd like to get a 'smart' phone with the Firefox OS installed on it. Does anyone have an idea as to when/where/if it's available in the US?

Thanks for the help!

Hi justacafe,

There is currently no information available about when Firefox OS will be available in stores through mobile operators in the US. However, there are 3 devices that you can currently buy online and have shipped to the US:

  • Flame Reference device - This is Mozilla's reference device, used by internal teams for development and testing. Comes rooted and unlocked.
  • ZTE Open C - This is ZTE's offering for a developer device. Comes unlocked, and may be rooted with an update.
  • ZTE Open - This is ZTE's first offering of a Firefox OS developer device. It is the first generation of device, so it has less power, but is slightly cheaper.

I hope you find this information useful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

- Ralph
