This article describes how to use Google calendars together with Lightning. You can use Google calendars in two ways. You can have read-only access to public calendars or you can use a bi-directional calendar, with both read and write-access.

Read access

If you only need read-access to a Google calendar, you can use the link of the public ICS file which is provided by Google, as indicated on this Google Help article: View from other applications

Read and write access

Creating your calendar URL

Your calendar URL is in the following format:

https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/your-email-address/events

Replace your-email-address with your actual GMail address and then copy the text into your clipboard.

Importing your calendar into Lightning

To import your calendar into Lightning, please follow these steps:

  1. Switch to the Calendar tab of Lightning by clicking on the button in the top-right of the Thunderbird window.
  2. Right-click on the white space in the calendar pane at the left of the Thunderbird window. Click New Calendar....
  3. Choose On the Network in the wizard that opened and then click Next.
  4. Select CalDAV for the Format. Paste the URL you copied before into the Location field and then click Next.
  5. Choose the GMail address you specified before for the Email dropdown. You can also select a name and a colour for the Google Calendar if you wish. When you are done, click Next to continue.
  6. Click Finish to start using your Google calendar.
