If you're signed in with your Mozilla account but Sync isn’t turned on yet, this article will help you activate it. Sync allows you to securely back up your bookmarks, passwords, browsing history, and more across your devices.

Follow these quick steps to turn on and manage Sync in Firefox.

Turn on Sync

1. Click your profile icon IG profile in the top-right corner of the Firefox toolbar.

2. Click the Turn on button from the menu. If you're signed into the browser, you'll be redirected to your Sync settings.

3. Choose what you’d like to sync (e.g., passwords, bookmarks, history) and click Save.

4. Firefox will confirm that Sync is on. You can also confirm by clicking your profile icon again and looking for "Sync is on" next to your account.

Manage what Sync backs up

1. Click the menu button [☰] in the top right corner of the Firefox tool bar and choose Settings.

2. In the left-hand panel, click Image:syncbutton. You might be asked to sign in again.

If the Sync panel shows:

  • Syncing: ON, click the Manage Sync button to manage your synced data.
  • Syncing: OFF, click the toggle to turn Sync on, if Sync has been disabled. Then, click Manage Sync.

3. In the Choose What To Sync window, check the boxes for the data you want (e.g., Passwords).

4. Click Image:savechangesbutton

Force a manual Sync

Mozilla accounts will sync at regular intervals, but you can also force a manual sync.

1. Click your profile icon IG profile in the top-right corner of the Firefox toolbar.

2. Click Sync Now.
