It's helpful for Mozilla's engineers to be able to measure how Firefox behaves in the real world. As you use Firefox, we receive on a daily basis technical and interaction data.
It is also perfectly understandable that users want to use the internet privately without any third party monitoring them or obtaining data which a user does not seek to share. This motivates many users to opt out of - or not opt-in to begin with - such data (even metadata) collection schemes as 'telemetry' or 'studies'.
Telemetry is an opt-in feature. This means that you specifically need to tell Firefox to collect and send this information to Mozilla.
For more about what data we receive and how it's used, see Mozilla's Firefox Browser Privacy Notice.
How do I opt-in or opt-out of sending performance data?
You can turn this on and off at any time with these steps:
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select (select on older macOS versions).Click the menu button
and select .
- Select the panel.
- Select the tab.
- Check or uncheck the box next to Share additional data (i.e., Telemetry).
- In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click and select (select on older macOS versions).Click the menu button
and select .
- Select the panel.
- Scroll down to the Firefox Data Collection and Use section.
- Check or uncheck the box next to Allow Firefox to automatically send technical and interaction data to Mozilla.
