You can configure how Firefox handles email links such as user@example.com on a webpage by setting the email application or website used in Firefox. When Firefox is set as your default browser on Windows, You can also set Firefox as your default mail handler. This guide explains how to set Firefox as the application that opens automatically when you click mail links.

Set Firefox as the default handler for mail links

  1. Open the Windows Start menu Windows10StartButton and select Settings.

  2. From your systems settings menu, click Apps setting option.
  3. Select Default apps.

  4. Scroll down to the Set defaults for applications section and click the Firefox app.
  5. Open the MAILTO section to see the available apps.

  6. From the app list, select Firefox as your default app and click the Set to default button button.

You can also go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps and enter MAILTO in the search box to find the application already set as the default, for example, Thunderbird. When you click on the entry that comes up, you can set a new default.
