You can configure how Firefox handles email links such as user@example.com on a webpage by setting the email application or website used in Firefox. When Firefox is set as your default browser on Windows, you can also set Firefox as your default mail handler. This guide explains how to set Firefox as the application that opens automatically when you click mail links.

Set Firefox as the default handler for mail links on Windows 10

  1. Open the Windows Start menu Windows10StartButton and select Settings.
  2. In the Settings page, click Apps.
  3. In the left menu, select Default apps.
  4. Click the icon under the heading Email to show your choices.
  5. Select Firefox in the Choose an app menu.

  1. Open the Windows Start menu Windows10StartButton and select Settings.

  5. Go to the MAILTO section and click on it, to see the available apps.

On Windows 11, you can also go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps and enter MAILTO in the search box to find the application already set as the default, for example, Thunderbird. When you click on the entry that comes up, you can set a new default.
