The Firefox OS Messages app lets you send short text messages (SMS) back and forth with people. And in Firefox OS v 1.1 you can also send and receive images, videos and other multimedia attachments (MMS). This article will get you up and running in no time.

Send a message

  1. Open the Messages app sms app.
  2. Tap the new message button Editmessages to get started.
  3. In the To: field you can either type in the phone number of the person you want to send the message to or tap the contact button contact button to add someone from the Contacts app.
  4. Then just type in the message field and hit Send when you're done.
Tip: To make typing easier, turn on word suggestions.

After sending your message, you'll be taken to a screen that shows all the messages between you and the recipient. Beside your message you may see a spinning circle Sending Icon letting you know that the message is being sent.

Send a group message

To send a message to more than one person:

  • Tap the enter key Enter key after the first phone number and then add a second or tap the contact button contact button to add more people from your contacts.

Send, view and save multimedia attachments

When creating a message, you can attach a photo, video or music file. To do this:

  1. Just tap the paperclip MMS attach button to the left of the message field.
  2. Select the source of the file you want to send (Video, Wallpaper, Music or Gallery). Choose the Camera option to take a new photo or video.

View and reply to messages

When you receive a message, your phone will chime and display a notification at the top of the screen.

  1. To view notifications, drag down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap on a message notification to open it in the Messages app.
  3. Type your reply and tap Send.

Of course you can always just open the Messages app directly. When you do, you'll be taken to a list of all your conversations.

  1. Tap on a conversation to view it.
  2. Type your reply and tap Send.

Delete unwanted messages

  1. Tap the edit button Delete Message to bring up the edit messages screen.
  2. Tap the circle next to the messages you want to delete.
  3. Tap the Delete in the upper-right corner.
  4. Finally hit OK and the messages will be deleted.
Note: Photos, videos or music files that you saved will not be deleted.
