Add-ons allow you to add extra features and functionality to Firefox. For fixes and new features, keep your add-ons up to date. Here's how to update your add-ons.
Table of Contents
Updating add-ons
- Click the menu button
and choose . The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
- Click the panel.
- Click the gear icon
in the upper-right area of the panel.
- Choose one of the options below:
- Check for update: Checks any updates to your add-ons manually. If there is an update, you have an option to choose to update it now or later.
- View recent updates: When you click this option, panel appear and it shows you last updated add-ons.
- Update Add-ons automatically: If you want to keep your add-ons up to date, select this option to update them automatically.
- Reset all add-ons to update automatically: If you want to update your add-ons manually, select this option. You can check for an update any time as manually.
Update settings for specific add-ons
Warning: Turning off automatic updates might make you miss important security updates to your installed add-ons. We recommend that if you don't use that add-on, disable the add-ons instead of turning off automatic updates.
You can individually adjust the update for each extension.
- Go to panel.
- Click "more" to see details page of a specific extension.
- Select the default, on or off for automatic updates.
If you choose the off; check for updates links will also appear on the details page of that extension. - Then if you want, you can go back extensions panel to set up others.
- Close the Add-on Manager (about:addons) tab.
Can I update the legacy add-ons?
Warning: Turning off Firefox's update option is not a solution for legacy add-ons. Instead of this, find new add-ons to change your legacy add-ons to compatible with 57+ add-ons.
If your add-on is not "compatible with Firefox 57+" which is labeled as Legacy in the Add-ons Manager tab, you can not update it, starting in Firefox version 57 (will be released in November 2017).
After legacy add-ons migrated to WebExtensions by own developers, they will be re-enabled to use and update - see Firefox add-on technology is modernizing.
