The Firefox OS Messages app lets you send short text messages (SMS) back and forth with people. You can also send and receive images, videos and other multimedia attachments (MMS). This article will get you up and running in no time.

Tip: To make typing easier, turn on word suggestions.

Send a message

  1. Open the Messages app sms app.
  2. Tap the new message button Editmessages to get started.
  3. In the To: field you can either type in the phone number of the person you want to send the message to or tap the contact button contact button to add someone from the Contacts app.
  4. Type in the message field, then tap Send when you're done.
You can also add a subject to your message by tapping the menu button fxos menu on the top right corner of the screen and choosing Add subject.
  1. Open the Messages app messages 2.0.
  2. Tap the new message button new email 2.0 to write a new message.
  3. In the To: field type in the phone number of the recipient or tap the contact button add contact 2.0 to add someone from your Contacts app. Repeat this step if you want to send the message to several people.
  4. Type in the message field, then tap the Send button send msg 2.0 when you're done.
You can also add a subject to your message by tapping the menu button message settings 2.0 on the top right corner of the screen and choosing Add subject.

After you send your message, you'll see a screen that shows all the messages between you and the recipient. A spinning circle Sending Icon next to any of your messages means it's in the process of sending.

Send and receive multimedia attachments

When creating a message, you can attach a photo, video or music file:

  1. Just tap the paperclip MMS attach button to the left of the message field.
  2. Select the source of the file you want to send (Video, Wallpaper, Music or Gallery). Choose the Camera option to take a new photo or video.

Note: This feature is available in Firefox OS version 1.1 and higher. Not sure what version of Firefox OS you have? Here's how to find out.

Low memory devices: If you're on a Firefox OS 1.3T device, images you send will be resized to 300KB or less.
Save a file that someone sent you: Tap on the message, then tap the file to open it. Tap Save.

Attach photo, video or music files to your message:

  1. Tap the paperclip icon MMS attachattach message 2.0attach file fxos2.1 on the message you're composing.
  2. Choose the file you want to send from the following locations: Video, Music, Gallery or Camera (shoots a new photo or video).
    • If you choose a photo from your gallery, you'll be able to crop it before sending the photo. Tap Done to finish attaching it.
    • If you've chosen a music or video file, tap confirm ringtone to finish attaching the file.
  3. When you've attached your files and finished writing your message, tap the Send button send msg 2.0.
Save a file that someone sent you: Tap on the message, then tap the file to open it. Tap Save.

View and reply to messages

When you receive a message, your phone will chime and display a notification at the top of the screen.

  1. To view all current notifications, drag the notification bar down from the top of the screen.

  2. Tap on a message notification to open it in the Messages app.
  3. Type your reply and tap Sendthe Send button send msg 2.0.

Of course you can always just open the Messages app to see a list of your messages.

  1. Tap on a conversation to view it.
  2. Type your reply and tap Sendthe Send button send msg 2.0.

Forward a sent or received message

Want to share a message with another contact? Follow the steps below:

  1. Tap on the conversation to open it. Tap the message you want to forward to add a check mark next to it. On some phones, you'll need to press down on the message until the next screen appears.

  2. Tap on the menu on the top right corner of the screen to see the Message options screen below. Tap Forward.

  3. In the To: field, enter the recipient and tap Send. You're all done!

  1. Tap on the conversation to open it.
  2. Do a long tap on the message you want to forward until a menu appears.
  3. Choose Forward
  4. Enter the phone number of the person you're forwarding the message to, or click add contact 2.0 to add a person from your contacts.
  5. Tap the Send button send msg 2.0 to finish.

Delete messages

  1. Tap the edit button Delete Message to bring up the edit messages screen.
  2. Tap the circle next to the messages you want to delete.
  3. Tap the Delete button in the upper right corner.

  4. Finally hit OK and the selected messages will be deleted.

  2. Tap Delete Messages.
  3. Select the messages you want to delete by putting a check mark in the boxes next to them.

  4. Tap Delete on the upper right corner of the screen.
  5. Tap the red Delete button to confirm.
Note: Photos, videos or music files that you saved will not be deleted.
