You can export your Firefox bookmarks for use in other browsers. This guide shows you how to export your Firefox bookmarks and import them into Internet Explorer.
- For instructions moving your Firefox data to another installation of Firefox, see Moving your Firefox bookmarks and settings.
- At the top of the Firefox window, click on the
menu and choose . - A window will open that allows you to manage your bookmarks. From this window click on
and choose . - The Export Bookmark window will appear. Choose a place to save your exported bookmarks that you can remember. The desktop or your My Documents folder, or in Windows 7 your Documents folder in your Libraries, are usually good spots that are easy to remember. Give your exported file a name such as bookmarks.html and then press the button.
- Now that your bookmarks have been exported, we need to import them in to Internet Explorer. Go ahead and launch Internet Explorer.
- (Internet Explorer 6) Click on the
drop down menu and then choose . - (Internet Explorer 7) Click on the star with the plus sign and then choose
. - (Internet Explorer 8) Click on the Favorites button and then the down arrow on the right of the Add to Favourites... button. Then choose
.
- (Internet Explorer 6) Click on the
- The Import/Export Wizard comes up. (Please note that the following steps apply to Internet Explorer 8. Steps for IE6 and IE7 may differ slightly.) On the first screen choose Import from a file and click on the
button. - Check the box next to Favorites. Click on the
button. - Click on the
button to select the exported bookmarks file you saved previously. Locate the bookmarks.html file you previously created and then click the button. - The full location of the bookmarks.html file will be shown in the text box. Click on the
button. - Click on the Favorites folder and click on the
button. - It may take a minute or two for your bookmarks to be imported, depending on how many you have. This final page lets you know we have completed importing our bookmarks. Click on the
button, to complete the import.
