By default, the Firefox New Tab page displays top sitesshortcuts (sites you visit the most), popular articles on Pocket, your recently visited or bookmarked sites, and short messages from Mozilla (called snippets), when you open a new tab. You can customize these settings at any time by following the instructions given below.

Tiles displayed in Shortcuts (most visited), Recommended by Pocket and Recent Activity (sites recently visited or bookmarked) sections of the New Tab page will change based on browsing behavior, but you can pin Shortcuts or remove these tiles.
Edit your Shortcuts
- Hover the mouse pointer over the three-dot menu that appears in the upper right corner of a Shortcut.
- From here, you can choose to Pin, Edit or Dismiss the Shortcut.
Customize your Shortcut
Your Shortcuts are the sites you visit most and the sites that you choose to Pin for easy access. These sites will also appear when you click on the address bar to start a search.
Add a Shortcut
- Hover the mouse pointer over an empty tile and click on Edite this site (the pencil icon).
- Type in a title and URL for the site, then click .
- A tile with the icon of the site will appear in your Shortcuts.
Pin a Shortcut
To make a site stay:
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
- A pin icon will show up on your pinned Shortcut.
Unpin a Shortcut
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
Remove a Shortcut
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
Rearrange Shortcuts
Click and hold on a tile and drag it to another spot.
Show more or fewer Shortcuts
- In your New Tab, click Personalize.
- Under Shortcuts, select the number of Shortcut rows you want to see from the drop-down menu.
Tiles displayed in Top Sites (most visited), Recommended by Pocket and Highlights (sites recently visited or bookmarked) sections of the New Tab page will change based on browsing behavior, but you can pin top sites or remove these tiles.
Move or remove a section
- Hover the mouse pointer anywhere within a section of tiles and click on the three-dot menu that appears in the upper right corner of the section.
- From here, you can choose to move, collapse or remove the section.
Customize your Top Sites
Your Top Sites are the sites you visit most and the sites that you choose to Pin for easy access. These sites will also appear when you click on the address bar to start a search.
Add a Top Site
- Hover the mouse pointer anywhere within the Top Sites section of tiles and click on the three-dot menu that appears in the upper right corner.
- Click
- Type in a title and URL for the site, then click .
- A tile with the first letter from the title will appear in your Top Sites.
Pin a Top Site
To make a site stay:
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
- A pin icon will show up on your pinned site.
Unpin a Top Site
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
Remove a Top Site
Hover over the tile until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click .
Rearrange Top Sites
Click and hold on a tile and drag it to another spot.
Show more or fewer Top Sites
- Hover over the Top Sites section until the Edit link appears.
- Choose from the following options:
- adds another row of top sites
- removes a row of top sites.
- lets you add a specific site to your top sites by entering a link and a name for the site. Sites you add will automatically be pinned.
- Click when you're finished.
Recommended by Pocket
Pocket is now part of Mozilla and brings the best stories on the Web right to your New Tab page. From here, you can save articles, remove them or open them in a new tab. You can even explore more stories by clicking on the categories presented on the New Tab page.
Save or bookmark a Pocket story
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click the menu and choose one of the following:
- : A prompt will ask you to give your bookmark a name and tags.
- : A prompt will ask you to sign up for a free Pocket account or sign in if you have an existing account.
- Click when you're finished.
Open a page in a new window
Want to view the article now? You can open it in a new window.
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click or if you don't want it to be saved in your browsing history.
Remove a recommended article
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click the menu then click to remove it from your Pocket recommendations.
Highlights
Highlighted sites are sites you've visited recently or bookmarked. Firefox will indicate whether a site is highlighted because you've bookmarked or visited it.
Save or bookmark a highlighted site
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click the menu and choose one of the following:
- : A prompt will ask you to give your bookmark a name and tags.
- : A prompt will ask you to sign up for a free Pocket account or sign in if you have an existing account.
- Click when you're finished.
Open a highlighted site in a new window
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click or if you don't want it to be saved in your browsing history.
Remove a highlighted site
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click the menu then click to remove it from your highlights. You can also click to remove highlighted pages from your browsing history.
Recent Activity
Recent Activity displays the sites you've visited recently or bookmarked. Firefox will indicate whether a site is displayed under Recent Activity because you've bookmarked or visited it.
Save or bookmark a site from the Recent Activity section
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
- Click the menu and choose one of the following:

- Click when you're finished.
Open a site from the Recent Activity section in a new window
Hover over the article until the menu (three dots) appears.
