I have recently started to get the message 'error - site blocked' on some sites that use to work. Can anyone suggest why this might be please?
I don't have the same problem if using Opera as a browser, however, I am aware that ISP's have blocked some sites in the UK because of a court ruling and wonder if this is the cause. The message has only started appearing since I read about this ruling. Is there a list somewhere that shows which sites are legally blocked in the UK? I can then rule that either in or out as the cause.
Many thanks for any help,
Regards Chieflx

Hi beastybell,
Thanks for the offer but don't worry about making a video. I can still access the sites so I am not too worried about changing proxy settings. I am glad it all worked out for you.
once again thanks for the help and offer,
regards Chieflx

Check your anti-virus and any filtering software to make sure that the site is not listed. Also check and family filters you may have. Also go to another computer, say the public library, and see if it is blocked. Most of the time, when a site is blocked because of censorship, you would get a message saying so.
Hi Fredmcd-hotmail,
Thanks for the reply, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have checked both anit-virus & family filters, both of which are set to allow my usual sites. I am afraid that the same thing happens on other computers as well. I Know torrent sites have been blocked which is what made me suspicious that it might be an ISP block. The site I am trying to access is free-tv but I suspect it is part of the ones 'outlawed' by the new legislation.
Once again thanks for help.
All the best chieflx
Well, all you can do now is find a site that you can access. At least until the censers block that as well.
You can also try alternative DNS servers.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

hi beastybell,
I had a quick look at that video but didn't watch all of it because it doesn't actually explain what's happening! just screen shots with very annoying music - I closed it after 10 seconds. I just use a different browser annoying but it's a workable solution.
hi chieflx
im sorry it couldnt be any help, i did infact try the solution that they guy had presented and it has worked a treat. i can go on all the websites that was blocked before. i found out that it is because our IP address is set in britton and by seting it to another country it allows me to search the internet with great freedom. if it is possible i will try and make a suitable youtube video for you to help fully explain how to do it with great detail. but only if you want to?
regards
