Firefox feature to enable the user to save the tabs before quiting has been disabled in Firefox 4.
However, to enable it, you can follow the following steps :
Type about:config in the address bar and press enter.
Click on I'll be careful, I promise
Enter browser.warnOnQuit in the filter field at top
Double click (toggle) on it to change the boolean value to true.
Now enter browser.showQuitWarning in the filter field
Double click on it to change it to true
Now restart Firefox
All Done!
Now you can save your tabs before quiting your browser.

It hasn't been disabled, it's just not as discoverable since the alert asking if you wanted to save your tabs on shutdown is now gone. If you use the default start page you will have a big button that let's you restore your session. Also you always have Firefox Button > History > Restore Session available.

We should probably just update [[Firefox does not ask to save tabs and windows on exit]].
There was not thread for that article, so I just renamed this one:

There are three different pending revisions. The latest one is mine. I removed fx3 content, fixed nested lists and encapsulated the old article in {for fx35} and wrote a fx 4 specific article inside {for fx4} tags.

Cor-el added explanations about the history not saved on exit and, from its edit, I created a new Having Problems section for Firefox 4, which contains the Firefox 3.6 sections. It needs review.

P.S. I made some edits to the last pending revision.
What about renaming this article "Problems restoring tabs and windows from your last session" (or similar) and then link to it in a new "Troubleshooting" section of the [[Session Restore]] article? Related discussion: [/forums/knowledge-base-articles/706404] We could also link to it from other articles (e.g., [[What are Tab Groups?]]) for troubleshooting session restore issues.
P.S. I made some edits to the last pending revision.

I agree.
scoobi,
I'll wait awhile and then, if no one objects, I'll rename this article "Problems restoring tabs and windows from your last session".
In the meantime, could you review my last revision? It may need to be changed to fit in with the new article title.

I haven't read scoobi's edit but I'm not sure it's a good idea to rename the article as it really closely matches the exact problem people caught by this problem are seeing.

I think cor-el's changes are fine for firefox 3.6 but the issue in Firefox 4 (and maybe in 3.6) is actually different. I think people who change those settings are not normally confused about why they can't restore their session. They changed the settings specifically to not be able to restore their session. The issue with Firefox 4 is about the removal of the shutdown dialog.

See cor-el's post [/questions/824813#answer-187618 here]. I replied with a link to this thread.
P.S. Related discussion here, about adding a troubleshooting section to the [[Session Restore]] article: [/forums/knowledge-base-articles/706404]
The article suggests:
Rename formhistory.sqlite to formhistory.sqlite.bak.
What is the logic behind this suggestion?
I can assume that some warn prefs that are set to false and the sessionstore files can be a problem, but the file formhistory.sqlite deals with saved form data and shouldn't have to do with session restore.

From Alice's unreviewed revision that now I agree partially with and Michael disagrees with, fxer2011 added keywords, removed the sentence about closing Firefox by the menu, changed Windows XP in depending configuration. I disagree with all his changes.
According to me, the main problem is that the troubleshooting section (fx35 specific or common) doesn't match the Session Restore troubleshooting section. "from the home page" should be also renamed in "from the default home page".
