No matter Independence Day, tomorrow July 4 is also the go-live date for Firefox 115.
Firefox 115 is forming the basis for the next Extended Support Release as well, but existing users on the 102esr-channel will continue to receive security updates and just be automatically upgraded to the new branch once 115.3.0esr is released (near the end of September 2023, as things look now).
These links will contain the usual bits of information for the new version:
As always feel free to add to this thread if you see other news or common problems popping up with the release as it goes live to more users. If you're a user yourself looking for help though, post in the support forum instead pls :))

I wonder whether this will reduce the ability of sites to detect private windows in Firefox:
IndexedDB is now also supported in private browsing without memory limits thanks to encrypted storage on disk. The temporary keys to decrypt the information are hold in RAM only and all stored information is purged at the normal end of a private browsing session from disk.

When something like this is posted. As a normal lay person who needs to be updated, but not beta. I want only proven versions. Currently using 114.0.2. So how do I know when to update to 115?

there are reports about performance issues in 115 in connection with the dashlane password manager: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1838448
...and startup crashes with 3rd party "Kingsoft Internet Security" software (there will be a 115.0.1 release for this): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1837242

I generally update Firefox within the first 24 hours (Tuesday or Wednesday) using the built-in checker (menu > Help > About Firefox).
If you are more cautious about new versions (the every 4 weeks release), try waiting 5 days (Sunday) in case there is some major issue that pauses the roll-out.

Something to be aware of with the release of Firefox 115:
The team is planning to release 115.0.2 to address bug1842368. The bug fixes a crash that occurs for Windows 7 users, and some Windows 10 users, when an untrusted module is loaded as a child process. This version will be released later today (Jul 11th, 2023), so please be on the lookout. ESR 115.0.2 will also be released on the same date.
