  2. Trigger warning: discussion of userChrome.css

(Yes, I know, it's not officially supported)

Firefox 113 deprecated various style properties whose names start with -moz-box (most importantly -moz-box-ordinal-group) which has led to a flood of complaints about the tab bar moving from just above content back to the title bar. I assume this also affects all custom CSS related to rearranging items on menus.

We can expect a lot of questions, and in addition to any stock answer, I probably will suggest something along these lines:

Firefox 113 continues the process of standardizing the user interface code and removing legacy elements. The latest change is to remove some proprietary properties (-moz-box-*) that were previously used to change the order of elements. How can you update your rules to start working again? (1) Check your original source. The person/site that provided the original code (often on Github) usually has already updated to account for the changes. (2) Ask on the FirefoxCSS subreddit. If you are a DIY coder, check out the sticky post with the technical background explanation, and if you want more help, try reading through the latest threads and/or starting a new one.

  3. Being Nightly and an unsupported change, we should not see too much of this, but just in case we do, I have had this flagged up (being fixed in an upcoming dot update to Release).

  4. Bug 1830721 and bug 1832215 have been identified as blockers for 113 release. The team is currently working on a dot release that they're planning to roll out tomorrow.

Thanks for linking the bug report and forum post here, Alice. Good to know we filed an issue already. I'll close mine as dupee, then.

  11. If anyone sees any reports of a pop-up message in Fx about Mozilla VPN, the response we have been given to use is:

"Thank you for reaching out with your concern. Firefox is committed to creating an online experience that puts people first, as such we quickly stopped running the ad experience, and are reviewing internally."

If a second response is needed further to a follow up from a user, we have been given:

We’re continuously trying to understand the best ways to communicate with people who use Firefox. Ultimately, we accomplished the exact opposite of what we intended in this experiment and quickly rolled the experience back. We apologize for any confusion or concern.
