Let's keep in mind the following:We must consider:
- One was set up for Whistler and then re-purposed
- The other was set up unbeknownst that there was already one in place
We can however:
- How communication will suffer when there are too many channels
- Individuals don't have Telegram or access to one
- A mobile device number is required to sign up with Telegram
Also: let's not forget about spam...
- Keep on group and give proper admin access to keep the group moderated.
The reason for the new group was due to the old one never been advertised or spoke about also the newer one seem a more active than the old one and had more contributors at present 58
So what if it requires mobile number? You care about privacy? By singing in with gmail on Android device or outlook on WP you already gave your number to companies.
Why is telegram group and it's purpose.

Telegram is application for communication with other people via internet. Basicly it's a chat application with options to create groups for group chat, send pictures, videos, documents, etc. It is much easier and faster communication instead of emails, depending of situation.
Hi guys,
My suggestion would be to keep only one group (Support Mozilla) and remove the other one. The first one was set up just for the Whistler workweek.
Also I agree with Andrew that we shouldn't have too many communication channels. I think it's cool for people to have a chat like Telegram if that's more fun for them but our main communication channel will remain IRC #sumo and that's where you will find most SUMO admins if you need them.

Madalina Didn't you mention Telegram with regard to Social, so is that yet another mystery group?
Hey John, she did mention that once before. But that group still has not been formed yet.
The Telegram group that David is talking about is not a mystery group nor it is related to the new social support initiative. Telegram is just a chat tool like IRC and it is widely used by other Mozilla groups such as Reps. Instead of IRC "channels" you have "groups". Some members of the SUMO community thought it would be useful to chat on Telegram too so they went on and created a group for SUMO. As I specified before, this is just a community initiative and that's fine but we'll keep IRC #sumo as our main communication tool.
As per the Social support program there have been discussions on what type of chat to use: some people would like to use IRC, some others would like to use Telegram. Nothing has been decided yet. I'm hoping to move all the discussions to the forums here but it may take a while: as this was a program initial driven by the Social team (so outside SUMO) most contributors were not familiar with SUMO or the forums and a separate mailing is being used. We have just recently started to take over and more sumo people are getting involved so things will be changing slowly.

What is/who are the Social team? Gotta link?
P.S. I found this blog post that mentions the "Social team". Maybe Madalina can confirm that this is what she was talking about?
https://blog.mozilla.org/sumo/2015/11/04/firefox-42-sumo-day-this-thursday-november-5th/
During this SUMO Day and throughout the following weeks we are working together with our friends from the Social team who are answering user questions on social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook. As not all the “Social” contributors are familiar with support we are giving them a hand .
As far as I can figure, the "social team" has to do with A of A and Facebook support.
There's this forum, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/social-media ... and these groups: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/groups/army-of-awesome-contributors https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/groups/aoa-moderators https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/groups/aoa-mentors https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/groups/facebook-support (now defunct?)
what am I missing?

The Social team is the staff members who manage the Mozilla social media channels. Channels like https://twitter.com/firefox or https://www.facebook.com/Firefox/ are being coordinated by them. There are two people who form this team: Maura and Liz.
The idea is to open these channels up more for the community and make the whole thing a bit more participatory, so not only helping out with answering to people who have issues (which we have already been doing through AoA) but also participate in content strategy etc.

The Support Mozilla link satdav gave - https://telegram.me/joinchat/Bk6sDwa8e6RTJx9wHcQsrw - doesn't work for me since I don't have Telegram software installed.
So, Telegram software / Telegram Messenger would be an alternative to using IRC #sumo for chat among SUMO contributors?
I don't normally "chat" on IRC but I do review the logs at http://logs.glob.uno/?c=sumo .... does Telegram have a log that people without a Telegram app can use? If it doesn't then that would effectively stop contributors like me from at least seeing what's being discussed.

You're partially right Alice.
As I explained before the Social team are the two staff members who are coordinating the Mozilla & Firefox social channels.
Until now we "SUMO" and they "Social" have ran things separately. We "SUMO" have tried to help people who ask for support on Twitter and Facebook by running programs like AoA by ourselves. They "Social" have focused mainly on strategy (so determining what type of content to post on the FB page, analyzing trends etc) but they have also identified that a lot of people are asking for help so they tried to run their own support program.
The difference between our social support program (AoA) and their social support program was as follows:
It made sense to start collaborating and figure out a middle ground where we bring these initiatives together and we create one big "Social SUMO" program. And that's where we are now. However merging these two is hard work and since a lot of stuff has been done in a closed environment it is not as transparent as it should be just yet. But we're getting there.
I hope that makes sense. If there are still questions about this let's open another thread as I feel we kind of went off-topic on this one.

Yes, there are logs. There's also the option of porting what's being discussed in Telegram to #sumo and the other way around, it's just a matter of getting to an agreement.
As I said before our main channel of communication is still #sumo. The people who are in Telegram just find it more fun and most of them don't like spending time on IRC anyway.
PS: Although I do have Telegram most of the time I'm logged out of it because it's much too disruptive. That's why we should keep the main stuff to #sumo and if people want to hang out and have fun on Telegram so be it.

What is your username and I will add you
+1 for vesper's idea to relay telegram to #sumo-telegram via a bot
Please remember that chat (irc, telegram, slack) is ephemeral and transient (and I love it for that!) and you can't expect volunteers and employees to read chat logs. I certainly don't read them!
My opinion (and I think our policy): Any decision or communication that you want to publicize needs to be on a public mozilla site (in order of my personal preference: SUMO contributor forum thread, public etherpad, wiki.mozilla.org, bugzilla, etc). You can chat about it all you want and I enourage you do that but if it's on the record it needs to be on a public mozilla site!
Cheers and thanks for helping Mozilla you all!
