    Thanks, philipp. The reason I was asking is because an edit was pending for fx42 to How to install Firefox on Windows (I commented out the Win64 portion of the "for advanced users" note).

    P.S. The Netflix issue is discussed in Bug 1187005 - Some plugins (Microsoft Silverlight, Java,...) are not recognized as installed with Firefox 64-bit build on Win64

    Here's confirmation that, when Firefox 42 is released, the download page won't include Firefox 64-bit installers for Windows: Bug 1181014- Make Firefox 42 Win64 builds on the Release channel available on mozilla.org

    As I read https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1181014 64-bit Firefox for Windows was going to be released only to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ ... but that's not going to happen for Firefox 42.

    (To clarify) As I read bug 1181014, 64-bit Firefox 42 for Windows is still going to be released but it will only be available for download from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/ or, as philipp wrote, from the archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/ pages. It won't be available from the www.mozilla.org/firefox/all page, as originally planned.

    in addition to the removal of support for the windowed options panel there will be a wave of feature removals in upcoming releases which will predictably produce some unhappy users and disruptions in support:

    • firefox 43 will remove the browser.search.showOneOffButtons pref to switch back to the old searchbar styling - bug 1119250 (when we recommend such things as workaround for users discontent with new features in the forum, we should probably always add a disclaimer, that this might be only a temporary "solution")
    • firefox 45 will drop support for tab-groups/panorama. users of tab-groups will get an advanced warning of the feature removal in the interface - bug 1222490
    • support for full themes will be removed - bug 1222546 (no timescale on this was publicised yet; just looking at the install numbers on AMO this will be affecting upwards to a million users)

    WTF? If we do that, Firefox will die! We have already lost many users because we don't fix Flash hangs and rather redesign Add-ons Manager. Customizability is one of the main reasons why some other people insist on Firefox, and we can't lose them too.

    It costs a lot to support this feature- to make sure it works with newer features/changes, etc. Only 40k people use it, so the investment simply can't be justified.

    The feature has already been removed in Developer Edition. Add-ons that provide similar functionality can be tested in Developer Edition to ensure compatibility after tab groups has been removed. (Note: Some of these add-ons may rely on tab groups to work.)

    "Heavyweight themes" and "full themes" are terrible misnomers. What is really being removed is XUL support for addons, which means current themes that do anything other than put a picture behind the UI will break. However, there is no intention to remove the ability to have themes that change UI elements- they will just have to do it without XUL. This was announced months ago.

    The functionality to do that doesn't exist yet. But it will before XUL support is removed from addons.

    It really is unfortunate that this bug was given the name that it was, that it was created without being dependent on a blocker bug for implementing themeing support in the new WebExtensions API, and that Firefox PM hasn't been more communicative about their dedication to working with the addons (ie. themeing) community to update the WebExtensions API. But I do expect all of these issues to be fixed soon.

    So please don't worry too much. But please do continue make your concerns known in a nice way. We'll get through this together. :)

    Hi

    My Firefox has just automatically updated itself to version 42. The extention page under add-ons does not show the extensions I have installed. The plug in page shows the plug ins I have installed. How do I fix this? This happened on my Windows 7 64 bit partition. I installed the ' Classic Add-On' extension to see if it would fix the issue. Sadly it did not. I have a screenshot. I am unsure if I am permitted to upload it to the media gallery. I also use Linux but I have not done an upgrade therein yet.
