[Site Issue] Bug with Sumo Search incorrect result link.

  1. This must be a very big problem for contributors or users trying to search Sumo.

Display of search result have I believe been changed and tweaked few times. I have not looked through recent or current bugs but we appear to have introduced an error. The 'hit' may leave you with many pages, even many hundreds of posts to manually search through. It repeats the thread link, presumably it is intended to have a link to the thread and then to the post.

Results display with two textblocks which are links. One is the thread title, the other is the content hit. This example is from advanced search. Similar problems occur with the ordinary sumo search.

I am sure it is a simple and quick fix that will be needed. As I say not yet checked but will find or file bug shortly. Meanwhile would appreciate Admin input, and other contributors confirming this.

Previously anyone in the know relied on Google until we blocked it by not indexing much of sumo. The advanced search has been a mess for years. Finally advanced features were recently added now we need to get rid of the useless empty clutter.

  2. Hmm... I'm not sure I follow this. Can you please be more specific about the problem? Is the thread title different from the content? What are we expecting to see when performing a search that we are not seeing?

  3. Or is it about the fact that when there are multiple posts we're sending the user to the top of the thread instead of to the actual post itself?

  4. When you do a search then on the search result page you get 10 results. If one of the results is a thread with multiple pages then you get a link to the question on the first page and not to a reply on another page that contains the search text, so you will have to go through each of the pages of a thread and use 'Find in page' to check which pages of that thread contain the text.

Both the title and the content of the question text of each result are clickable links that link to the same main thread content, i.e. do not have a hash (anchor) link appended to point to a specific reply. It would be nice to get a direct link to a page and reply that contains the search text.

Seeing the creation date and thread creator and possibly have more than 10 results (we used to have 20 results) would also be helpful.

Why does the result provide two identical links ? It should provide a link

    1. To the top of the thread, and
    2. To the post

I am sure that was actually what was intended. Quite possibly this is what has happened in earlier versions of the search, and I am fairly certain that us what the majority of people using search would expect when seeing two links.

The actual example I gave was pretty simple as it was something returning a single result. If you try the search link I posted you will see the one single hit.

Now try to find that post.

You could use the link (HIT) I provided but the search result does not.

The results show the thread tile and an extract of the post. Both are links. but both links go to the top of the thread.

That example is slightly extreme in being for an exceedingly long thread and returning only a single hit.

Of cause if the search returns 10, 20 or more hits then even if the threads are shorter the problem of finding the text is repeated with each of the 10 or whatever threads.
