[Resolved] Is it possible for a user to delete/remove completely his/her own account?

  1. more options

    - I would like to ask an administrator to delete my "Mozilla Support" account (yes the one I'm actually using now for this question) since I won't need it anymore.

I would also really appropriate if anyone could also answer the following questions.

    1) Why is it not possible for a user to delete/remove his/her own account when she/he please?

    2) Will all the personal data (username, password, name,etc...) of the user continue to be store in your central database temporarily/permanently even when the user account is deactivated???

    3) In the event that the user personal data is indeed conserve in any kind of central database for a certain period of time, may the user know/be inform of the amount of time that Mozilla reserve the right to continue storing his/her personal info in that database?

Tys guys for answering/responding to those questions even if you don't answer any of the following questions that find but don't forget to remove this Mozilla support account since I don't need it anymore!

  2. I could deactivate it straight away (I am only a Mod not an Admin).

However that prevents you using this form so I will not do that. Deactivation removes your personal data from public view but leaves the posts you made using an anonymous user number.

Note a user may easily unsubscribe from following threads etc.

You asked a question ( /questions/974291 ) about Firefox but then did not respond further. Presumably you no longer use Firefox and so are not in need of assistance.

Oh for that question, I already manage to solve the problem... although it take quite a while.

So...if I understand correctly what I just read is that although the personal data is remove from public view... mozilla still retain them for a indefinite period of time for whatever reason, isn't it?

Yeah you can deactivate this account as long it before year 2014, I'm find with it.

Sorry I do not know the details of the information actually retained, other than what may be inferred from reading the article I linked to.

I am not sure if the email address is retained in a secure fashion. It may be; in that possibly; that is to prevent deactivated users from recreating an account with the same email address. Usually accounts are deactivated because of misbehaviour i.e. spamming the forum.

I or any other Moderator may deactivate your account but I will not do so unless you confirm again that is your intention and instruction. That will prevent you posting in this forum. (Although you will still be able to read any replies here)

You my wish to make a note of or bookmark this thread as it will be harder to find once you are unregistered

I still think it would be good to get an Admin answer to the full question the OP asked. They are questions that may well be asked again in the future.

Yes but "sticky" threads are to get everyone's attention. If you want an admin to pay attention then "Attn: Admin" in the title with periodic "bumps" should be enough.

  10. Alice, I agree it is not a good idea to sticky such threads.

[Attn Admin] was a tried and trusted method.
Currently Admin do not seem to be able to handle that. As you will now be aware Madalina said to sticky threads.

Thanks for bringing this up, John.
There is no specific person tasked to do this from the Admin group, I assume mainly because there's always some meeting, travel time, crazy issue that might appear so we are pretty much counting on each to pick this up. Which obviously doesn't work.

I think making these posts sticky would be a very good idea. I sometimes get pinged about an issue but then I cannot find it because there are so many discussions and threads get lost.

Also, having helpdesk involved might be a good idea, not sure if they have time, we need to ask them :)
Meantime, while we clarify this, I'll take this on so please let me know which are the ones not solved

Yes, I saw Madalina's post and I replied to her as follows: /forums/contributors/709814?#post-56256

I disagree that threads needing admin attention should be stickied. Adding "Attn:Admin" to the thread title should be enough.

A "sticky" post should be something that's important for all contributors to read ... not just something to make it easier for admin to find threads that a moderator thinks is more important for them to read than other threads .

If others notice that a thread that needs admin attention has been overlooked, they can "bump" it to bring it to the top of the forum list.

  12. Attn Admin,

    (Bump.
The question of who reviews and the procedure for following upon and using [Attn Admin] posts is as far as we can see as contributors still left in abeyance.)

Note in another thread I also asked about the email position

    John99 said

... , I just thought I better ask before de-activating the account, in-case the change is something you could do yourself, as that would save you the trouble of re-registering the account at a later date.
I think you may then have to re-register with another email account. I am not sure of that last point. ..... Thanks, John

    Cheers, John
