Today I received an email to say I have been awarded a 2011 Support Forum Badge. While I am grateful, how come the email only arrived today for recognition for something in 2011? Are these badges a new thing? Thanks :)

yes, badges are brand-new (just implemented in the last few days), but they are getting retroactively awarded for past achievements - so that's why you're just seeing it in your inbox today :))

Retroactive only as far back as August 2010, forum data from before the change over to the current software was lost. There are a few of us here who have been around since late 2007 - I had 30,000 support postings as of 07-20-2010 16:09 CDT and IIRC, cor-el had well in excess of 60,0000 when the change over was done.

We can manually award badges for the missing years. How to do it fairly though? Would we be able to figure out most or all the contributors that deserve one for 2007-2010?

If people keep their email (like I do) they should have some proof to produce. I only watch the contributor forum, but if anyone posted there I should have it. Maybe the forum moderators have more emails from when people posted in threads they had commented on.

Hi guys,
So happy badges are finally here! Just to clarify, this is the first batch of badges. There are a lot of great contributions that need to be recognized so we're looking into having more badges in the future covering different areas of contribution.
