Crash reports being submitted without permission ?
-
In this thread a user is reporting that he approved a single crash report but that multiple reports were in fact submitted
Presumably this should not happen. Anyone got any comment or ideas for reproducing this ?

Can't help you there, I have had so few crashes that I'd have to go through 5 or 6 Profiles to come up with 5 crash report ID's. Like with having to deal with Malware, I feel left out.

The person may in fact be referring to Flash crash reports. I think the question may have been asked in relation to privacy issues.
Although I do not personally see there is much to worry about regarding the content of the reports, I do agree with the principal that a users should have the oportunity to agree or reject the submission. I do not see that Firefox should send multiple reports after a use agrees to send one.
I also do not see how that could happen.
Wild conjecture but what happens if multiple tabs have Flash content and Flash Player hangs? Could it be possible then that multiple hang reports would be generated and all sent at once with only one notification seen ?

The user said,
Crash reporter came up and I submitted a crash report. I only saw one crash, and only saw Crash reporter once. As such, I only approved sending a crash report once.
Plugin crash reports are sent from the Plugin crash UI, not from Mozilla Crash Reporter. It's also possible to get a "silent" crash at shutdown with no crash UI that results in multiple pending crash reports... for example, see my comment in this fixed Flash bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=747683#c3
Also, you can't go by the "Date Submitted" in about:crashes as the time of the crash. It could have been a report that was sitting in the "pending" folder that was just submitted by clicking on it in "about:crashes" Related bugs:
- (Fixed) Bug 378528 - crash reporter should allow resubmission of pending reports
- (New) Bug 516455 - Use crash date instead of submission date for resubmitting pending crashes

Thanks for the reply Alice.
As I understand it then and assuming the issue is a privacy one are you confirming Firefox submits bugs without the users explicit permission in at least two situations
- when about:crashes is opened
- when there is a silent crash at shutdown

You misunderstood. In the example I gave from my own experience, the crash UI never appeared. The "silent" crash reports got added to the Pending folder. To submit, you have to click on the report ID listed in about:crashes.
