Every crash I helped with last Thursday (4 or 5) was because of Trusteer Rapport. All solved by deleting the program. :(

Yes, I posted this for two reasons
- Trusteer seems an important site for verifying financial transactions, and so could be seen as a major failing of Firefox that it does not work with this, see The companies that use our services:
- It is generating variable signature or empty string crash reports, that possibly makes it less obvious to some users what the cause of the crash may be.

I've been linking to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes#Trusteer_Rapport which says:
Trusteer Rapport (an application promoted by some banks for malware protection) may cause Firefox to crash. If you use this software, try disabling it as follows:
- On Windows: Go to "Start->All Programs->Trusteer Rapport->Stop Rapport"
- On Mac: Go to "System Preferences -> Other -> Rapport -> Stop Rapport"
MozillaZine's article links to other references, including two from Trusteer Support (#1, #2) on steps to disable and bug 699776 on the startup crashes.

Interestingly I note from your link to a Trusteer faq, that Trusteer seem to be blaming other browser add-ons rather than an incompatibility with Firefox.
... This is a very rare scenario. Rapport blocks unauthorized browser add-ons from accessing the browser. Some add-ons are badly designed and do not handle blocked requests properly. As a result the add-on crashes and causes the browser to crash (as the add-on is part of the browser's process). ...
from http://www.trusteer.com/support/en/my-browser-crashingI wonder if that is currently a factor in recent crashes, and if so what the other Add-ons involved may be ?
That would presumably mean Firefox should run Trusteer in safe mode; unless Trusteer's definition of Add-ons includes other plugins.

The report you referenced, /questions/893296 said that Firefox crashes before even openning I have attempted to open in safe mode by holding the shift key, but it crashes just the same. Other reporters with startup crashes involving Rapport said starting in Safe Mode didn't help, such as this one linked from MozillaZine's article: /questions/892277

One of the people I helped said safe mode didn't work. Also they all had to use IE to ask their questions so there are no extension lists to compare.

I just looked through some comments in https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/03f624e3-7c3e-4c5b-899e-2952e2111104 Firefox 7.0.1 Crash Report [@ _purecall | nsXPTCStubBase::QueryInterface(nsID const&, void**) ] which is the report I've often seen for the recent series of crashes involving Rapport (related bug 699776).
It looks like most people report a startup crash but others can open Firefox but then it crashes later. One person did comment that, I can start firefox in safe mode by holding shift down but not normally. I get this page. What do I do? ...Submitted: 2011-11-04 02:08:58-07

I added a section on Trusteer Rapport startup crashes for win to Firefox crashes when you open it (needs review)
I added a section on Trusteer Rapport startup crashes for win to [[Firefox crashes when you open it]] (needs review) -
There is now a new Latest Firefox issues article in the KB that includes a section on startup crashes related to Trusteer Rapport. So, I deferred my own edit that added that information to the Firefox crashes when you open it article.
