New documentation for localizers

  1. Hey everyone,

With the latest changes to SUMO we have added quite a lot of features and changes significantly how SUMO works for localizers. I'm currently writing a new documentation for localizers, and it would be of great help, if you could list the things that you have a hard time to understand today (Eg. group dashboards), and the things you wish someone had told you when you were a beginner.

    Thanks! Kadir

  2. When are articles marked as ready for localization?
For those that are updated for the Beta version, it's four weeks before the release (see Doc Cycle Weeks 1 - 4), but those that fix wrong information about the current version or improve the article, I don't know (currently 27 KB articles in this case and an undefined number of how-to-contribute articles).

Which important templates and start pages do I localize first? Do I need to localize the template name? (see How to included a translated template?)

Do I need to localize links to an article in articles?

I fully localized the article, but some English sentences are still displayed in the article? (about templates)

Who is responsible of my locale in Verbatim (update Meet the team for Verbatim locale leaders)? When is Verbatim updated (see the SUMO calendar)? There are 5260 strings to localize, which important strings do I localize first in Verbatim?

See also questions from a beginner: i would like to help you but i don't know how ?.

When is this documentation scheduled for the end of August ready?

I see that the "Changes Not Ready For Localization" list in the KB dashboard goes back over 3 months now!

The official rule is four weeks before the release of a new version, so some articles have missed several releases.

For the record, I deleted my post that contained that quote since my comments were off-topic and didn't belong in that article's discussion forum.

  7. If you ask contributors some comments to update the SUMO documentation and don't do it, don't expect that in the future they will take time to answer to new requests, like here.
