Google toolbar questions

  1. Google finally announced that they are no longer supporting Google Toolbar (starting with Firefox 5). They point users to this help article.

We should use both those links with our existing community and they can direct questions to Google.

  2. Took them long enough to finally say that they are not supporting the Google toolbar extension for Firefox anymore from Fx 5.0 and on.

Just wonder how many will still think it is Mozilla's fault in some way or that they vow to stay with either Fx 4.0.1 or 3.6.* as long as they can.

  3. more options

Many Firefox users will be disappointed with the Google Toolbar no longer being available for Firefox 5.0+ versions. I think Mozilla is bound to lose some users over this change, and others may stick with older versions of Firefox as a result.

I for one, am not going to miss the complaints about problems caused by the Google Toolbar in Firefox, as it has been problematic on and off for a number of years now.

  4. Many of the toolbar's functions should be replaceable, maybe it's worth making an article about how to customize Firefox without google's help?

  5. See /forums/knowledge-base-articles/707162 about the Google toolbar feature replacement.

  6. And what happens for those users when we eventually get forced to throw the kill bit on Google Toolbar for security reasons?

  7. Well I suffice with the googlebar lite. And frankly the rather useful parts of Google toolbar should have been default options in firefox a long time ago.

Even now we should have better articles explaining this situation to users so they don't go assuming this functionality is gone. Of course properly linking them across the place is going to take some proper notice from the right people for it.

  9. scoob ...

Maybe - I'm undertaking too many things atm. That could result in failure to deliver elsewhere. But if no one does till i sort my stuff out - I will. As it seems nobody checked the extensions for substitutes.

  11. Easy, I saw those.

I obviously meant packaged extension substitutes. Last time I saw there were more than one extensions that pretty much did google toolbar's job and had a different logo on them and a different guy asking for a donation.

And I did search - didn't see you or the google guys mention the googlebar lite for instance anywhere. And when I last reinstalled that at my FF 5 transition there were some other options to consider too.

Either way all the bars and such are on a short life. There's just a few more features to be added and most of them would be integrated.
