I use Thunderbird on a few machines. I take emails from one machine to another by putting the emails in a folder, then attaching the two related files to an email to myself. When I get the attachments on the next machine, I save the files to a hard drive folder containing my email folders. I exit Thunderbird and restart it and there's the folder with the transferred emails. I've recently added a 64 bit machine to the mix. I have a problem in that the 64 bit machine will not see the transfer folder when emailed from a 32 bit machine. If I copy the files to a flash drive from the 32 bit machine and then onto the 64 bit machine, then it sees the folders. Any ideas how I can fix this? It's a pain to be using flash drives back and forth. Thanks.

I have wondered in the past, why the Inbox file (without extension) is so big. Today I moved all subfolders and remaining message from the Inbox. So there is literally NOTHING in the Inbox, but the Inbox file is still nearly 3 GB. How is this possible?!? Are there invisible files, settings, etc. saved in it? Is there a way to reduce the file size?

Also the Drafts folder/file is 1 GB but there is nothing in it. I just emptied the Junk folder and it still shows up with nearly 1 GB. This is very strange.

Please advise! Thanks!

I am using the current release, 102.9.0 (32-bit). When writing a new e-mail, I often need to paste text copied from from a previously sent e-mail. From time to time but not consistently, the text editor fails in the following ways: 1. Mixed text (bold followed by roman) is shown wholly in bold. 2. The pasted text is not displayed but is present in the file and can be seen after saving and re-opening from Drafts. 3. The pasted text appears in some other place than expected.

On 14 February, Ionos advised me I would be unable to download emails from their server after 25 April unless the email program supported TLS1.2 or higher and they said Thunderbird version 52.00 supported TLS1.2 or higher.

2. I have 2 PCs with Windows XP SP3 and 1 laptop with Windows Vista. Ionos say the only email program I will be able to use after 25 April using the latter 3 devices to download emails from their server is Thunderbird version 52.00.

3. Is there now any means by which one may install Thunderbird version 52.00 onto a PC with Windows XP SP3 or, alternatively, a laptop with Windows Vista?

Hi,

It seems that I deleted a folder from Thunderbird by mistake somehow while clicking on it with the mouse, it moved and disappeared. In the activity manager it says folder deleted!

I cannot find the folder in the trash or deleted folders or anywhere else. However, whenever I search in the global search for emails that are in that folder, the folder appears under the list of folders on the left, but when I click on the messages they don't open as if the folder doesn't exist.

Please advise how to find that folder and recover. I'm using IMAP - Office365.

I've recently migrated from POP3 to IMAP on my AT&T account, which uses sbcglobal.net in the Yahoo domain. I set up my outgoing server to be smtp.mail.yahoo.com through port 465 using SSL/TLS connection security and Oauth2 authentication, all unber Win10.

When i try to send an email, I see what looks like a browser window open up with the title "Enter credentials for my_email@sbcglobal.net on smtp.mail.yahoo.com. This window remains open only a few seconds with the a URL of

https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/v2.0/authorize?response_type=code&client_id=9e5f94bc-e8a4-4e73-b8be-63364c29d753&redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Flocalhost&scope=https%3A%2F%2Foutlook.office365.com%2FIMAP.AccessAsUser.All+https%3A%2F%2Foutlook.office365.com%2FPOP.AccessAsUser.All+https%3A%2F%2Foutlook.office365.com%2FSMTP.Send+offline_access&login_hint=my_email%40sbcglobal.net

The windows them closes. If I wait long enough or cancel the send operation I see a popup that says

Send Message Error "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'."

My default browser is chrome and I assume a Chrome window gets opened directed towards that URL. If I open a browser window and enter the above URL, I see "This site can’t be reached localhost refused to connect" from either Chrome of Firefox. I am absolutely certain my password is correct, so what am I doing wrong?

I have successfully used thunderbird for years, but cannot add my gmail account. I read the google and TB docs. I have tried this several times. I must be doing something wrong, but not clear to me…

First, I did gmail steps:

1) log into gmail using gmail.com email address and gmail password 2) click on Setting “gear” in upper right 3) click on “see all settings” 4) click on “forwarding and pop/imap” tab 5) verify that “enable imap” is checked. Says “status: imap is enabled”

Then, I did thunderbird steps:

6) clear error log. click File / New / Existing Mail Account 7) enter 3 items: my name, full gmail.com email address, and gmail password 8) check “remember password” 9) click “continue” 10) TB says “configuration found in mozilla isp database” 11) IMAP option already checked 12) click blue “done” button

Then, there were some google popups:

13) in google popup, gmail address already entered, clicked “next” 14) next popup, enter same gmail password from step 1, click “sign in” 15) receive phone call for google 2-step verification and enter code 16) next popup says “mozilla thunderbird email wants to access …” 17) popup has 3 items: email, contacts, and calendar. click “allow”

Finally, back at thunderbird, it says in a yellow box: “Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password”. So fails to work.

I accessed settings / privacy / passwords / saved passwords. The list is empty. "Use a primary password" is not checked.

In case helpful, here are the messages in the error console resulting from one attempt (steps 1 to 17), with my gmail address blanked out:

I have created an HTML signature for my account which is always inserted. So far so good. However, each time the character -- is also inserted, which according to the support pages HTML signature is obviously even intentional.
