My old email address was [redacted] @USIWireless.com. I got a new email address: [redacted] @icloud.com I am trying to set up my new email address with Thunderbird and when I do the steps I get an error message. "Unable to log in at server probably wrong configuration, user name or password. I am using my new email address with its password. Not sure what to do next. I would really like to get my new email on Thunderbird. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you for any help! Anthony Berka

For a week or two I haven't been able to send any email from Thunderbird. I use smtp.gmail.com as my outgoing server, and have it configured using SSL/TLS on port 465 with Oauth2 authentication. I first saw this on an older TB version, but have now updated to Thunderbird 152.0.1 on MacOS Sequoia 15.7.7.

When I try to send email, a dialog pops up saying "Enter credentials" for my account, then "Verify it's you". When I click on Next it asks me to "Complete sign-in using your passkey". I believe at this point another window is supposed to pop up and I can use a fingerprint to enter the passkey, but that window never pops up. I have tried 3 different default browsers: Firefox (my usual one), Google Chrome, and Safari. All behave the same. Firefox might be suppressing Javascript, but the other two certainly aren't.

Is there some system security setting that might be preventing Thunderbird from opening a window in the default browser, or does Thunderbird maintain its own record of the browser? Any other suggestions on how to get the passkey challenge to appear?

Something changed. I’ve tried to set up my old AOL email account multiple times using different default browsers, and the setup typically fails. Using Edge, I get “Edge: Too Many Requests” . Using Firefox, I get “Waiting for authorization in login popup…” and then the old rotating arrow. After about a minute delay, the Account Hub reports “Authentication error.” The Thunderbird Account Hub reports the outgoing server settings test good. I’ve changed my AOL email password, and have an AOL application password ready to use, but never get asked. I’ve turned off two-step verification in AOL, but same Thunderbird behavior. I’ve got multiple computers, and this issue is the same on all. I’ve had no problem adding a Gmail and SBCGlobal.net account. Thunderbird is 144.0.1 (64-bit) release. Windows 11 Home, version 25H2. I really don't want to give up Thunderbird, but I need this account badly.

Yesterday I changed my AOL password online. Now Thunderbird email no longer works. I get a popup labelled "enter credentials for user on pop.aol.com". Within the popup window it says "Edge: Too Many Requests"

Settings have not changed and worked prior to password change. I believe if the popup window was working correctly I could enter my new password and all would be fine.

Thunderbird updated to 148.0 today and I'm no longer getting mail from my AOL accounts (iMap). I get a screen that appears to be a signin for Oauth2 but when I enter my account info I get an AOL screen that indicates I should login with a browser already used. When I do that I login fine but still can't access the account with Thunderbird.

Google sent notice that my password had been compromised, so I changed it. When I went back to Thunderbird to open email I got a popup to change my password, when I clicked NEXT I got a Message that said, "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know." Then I got an email through the Gmail website providing me an authorization code, but I have no idea where to enter that code. I've been working on this issue for a few days now and am in a Catch-22 situation with no idea how to proceed. Below are screenshots of the responses I've gotten so far. Suggestions???

I have been using thunderbird for years now with no issues at all. within the last month or so i started getting errors that my outgoing pw was incorrect. Then things seemed ok for a bit and as of today I just cant send anything at all. It will download mail just fine. But absolutely will not send.

  After checking all the settings, as shown below, and triple verifying everything is correct for the server and settings, ports etc.  I cant figure this out.  I have the exact same settings in my iphone mail and it downloads and sends mail just fine.  I can send an email from the phone and get it on my desktop through thunderbird, but i can not send anything back...  Both have had the same settings for years.  But the thunderbird app just decided it no longer wants to accept my outgoing password.  I have deleted the saved password within thunderbird and even after re entering it when the popup comes up, it just refuses to accept it.  I have a feeling this may have been one of the prior TB updates???
   Here are some images.  Can anyone help figure this out please... It's driving me bonkers

Hi, I can sign in and all mail accouns work fine. However, i USED to be able to go to passwords then chose show passwords and (after typing my global passsword for TB) I would see my real passwords (not the long string of letters) for each account.

Now I cannot see these anymore. How come and can i see my real passwords for my accounts?

Hi, I keep getting a login to account failure error message. It reads "Login to account "xxx@xxx" failed. Login to server mail.xxx with username xxx@xxx failed." This issue is occurring on an iMac. The same login credentials work on my Thunderbird Macbook Air. The support at Siteground were unable to resolve the issue, except to say, after a successful test at their end, that the problem must be with Thunderbird. The version I'm using is 152.0 (aarch 64). I've tried a quit and re-install more than once. Can you help?

I'm being notified that I have to give a password for a mail from an unknown sender. Giving my Mozilla password doesn't help. How do I solve this because it is a recurring request which is very annoying .

I can not get my google workspace account to authorize in Thunderbird. Using IMAP setting. Thunderbird automatically finds the correct server settings, but when I hit "continue", it gives an authentication error.

I have spent extensive time with the google workspace admin console help. This is the final result: "Thank you for trying all the steps so far. Since Thunderbird has already been added under App Access Control in the Admin console, IMAP is enabled, and cookies/cache have been cleared, but the authentication error still persists, this points to a possible issue with the application’s client ID used by Thunderbird for OAuth. In this case, you will need to contact the Thunderbird support team to verify the correct client ID for their OAuth implementation. Once you have the correct client ID, we can then configure it properly in the Google Admin console so the authentication works successfully. We’ve confirmed that all Google Workspace settings on our side are correct, so the next step must be coordinated with Thunderbird’s team."

Therefore, here I am.

I'm trying to put thunderbird on my laptop, but after entering the password I keep getting an error message saying the password or settings must be wrong. But I've checked the incoming & outgoing settings, my password a few times now & I know everything is correct. So why do I keep getting this error message & is there a way to fix this? I'm running windows 10.

After moving my Thunderbird profile to a new computer none of my accounts can authenticate. I followed the instructions here: Move Thunderbird data to a new computer, using "An alternative method for manual transfer between Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers." What explains the response in the attached image, "Something went wrong," and how can I fix it? Happens when I click "Next", the first step to log it.

I have a related problem with other accounts set up in the profile. This one is using Oauth2. I tried switching to password, and hand a similar problem. I tested the connection to the server in Settings for the account and it was successful. Same for the others. They all authenticate successfully on my old computer.

When I try to access my email on Thunderbird, I keep getting the same message: Login to account "jayoung3@icloud.com" failed Login to server imap.mail.me.com with username jayoung3 failed.

I changed my password but I still can't access my email. And I have an account recovery code (which I don't know how to use).

I have filled in an un-correct password a number of times due to incorrect language setting of my keyboard. Then the popup window for this disappeared, and I cannot find a place to enter password. What can I do? It is the password for outgoing email.

In setting up a new PC (laptop), I must make my password known to the software. But I cannot remember my password. On my existing, older, laptop, I saved my email password long ago i.e. I do not have to enter my password, on the older laptop in order to get email. I no longer remember my own password. I received an email message from earthlink which included a verification code that I did not request. Earthlink support told me to change my password immediately which I did. Now when I open open Mozilla on me laptop, it requires me to put in the new password. How do I change the password/login that Mozilla uses to access earthlink?
