After my wife recently passed, I closed her email account. She, as I, had been using Thunderbird and I have her profile and all of the email files. I want to add an email account to TB so I can read these emails as they contain information pertaining to the charity we support. TB will NOT create an account without an active email to which it can connect. I need a way to add a "dead" account using her profile and email files but without reopening the original email account for which there would be a fee.

It would be great if TB would allow this but I've tried several approaches and none work but then I may have been doing it wrong.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

I have looked at the FAQ for this subject and I suspect I am out of luck. I believe Tbird automatically backs up data and stores it in a "profile" file. As I was trying to save documents etc. on my old PC with a view to selling it I encountered a serious problem which caused me to take it in for repair. The shop reported a damaged drive and have saved whatever data they could before returning the old hard drive. I now have a new PC, have installed TBird from the internet but as I was not able to save the original profile, I have lost all of the folders with saved emails. Is there any way to recover that information? Presumably it's still saved somewhere under my profile? I would be grateful for any advice about that.

I have been researching syncing T-bird addresses with Google contacts, and most of what I have found relates to older versions of T-bird.

I saw some plug-ins (TbSync, and Google-4-TbSync), then I saw that T-bird may do the syncing natively. Not sure if that means without plugins.

In Preferences->Composition I can add a LDAP Directory Server. Is this where to add googles contacts server?

If so, can someone give the details of what fields to set, (Specifically, I will need the Hostname, the Base DN, the port number, ...)

If this is not the yellow-brick-road, is TbSync, and Google-4-TbSync the way to go?

Thanks for your help, Mark

It's a small thing in this day and age of hacking and compromised web sites, why does the brain trust behind thunderbird make is SO HARD to change a password. NO instructions in help, search the simple terms "change email password" and NOTHING comes up. All I want to do is change my password on an email account. I can log into the email website with firefox but thunderbird cannot retrieve emails from that account, why? I am unable to change the password in thunderbird.

I cannot see the number of finds in a single message search. I mean in the bar at the bottom of the message. It should say at the end of the bar something like -- 1 of 10. I think it is a sizing problem--the search box looks too long to me. I use this all the time and wish it could be fixed. I updated FF, TB and NVidia today and have restarted my programs and my pc.

Thunderbird auto-updated from 78.14 to 91.1.1 yesterday. I'm using Thunderbird to access my Gmail account via IMAP. Everything was working fine in version 78, but now when I open a new message, the last deleted message reappears in the inbox.

If I have multiple new messages in my inbox, read one and delete it, as soon as I open the next message, the one I just deleted will reappear. Sometimes deleting the message that reappeared causes the another one to reappear, and I have to keep deleting them again until they stop.

For example, just now I had two unread messages when I started up Thunderbird. I read the first one and deleted it. When I opened the second one, the first one reappeared. When I deleted the second message, and then re-deleted the first message, the second message reappeared. Deleting second message one caused the first message to reappear again. This went back and forth several times before they stopped reappearing.

I have just set up Thunderbird for the first time as a client for my e-mail on domain mozart.co.uk

It is seeing the received mail fine. But when I send an e-mail (as a reply or a new mail) I get a window "Sending message" with a progress bar. As it reaches the end I get an error message (every time):

"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mozart.co.uk was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again."

Can anyone tell me what I have to do?

(Hope this can be fixed as, apart from this, I really like the program!)

New user being asked for password and it being ignored

I downloaded and set up Thunderbird yesterday, using 31.8 as instructed here as I was changing from desktop Outlook: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_importing-from-outlook-and-eudora, however I downloaded the latest version from the website after importing as the built-in update mechanism seemed to think it was up to date.

I managed to set up my email account; it was able to receive incoming mail yesterday. However today when I opened it to check for new emails it asked me for my password. When I input the password, the box disappears, but reappears when I try to do anything. I checked my online inbox and I recieved mail this morning which isn't appearing in Thunderbird.

Although I did input the wrong password twice (I had to change it recently and got confused), it won't recognise the correct one either. (I checked online that it was definitely the correct one.) I've looked at "saved passwords" but there are none in the list to delete or change, even though I'm clicking "use password manager to remember this password".

My mail client is Easily (mail.easily.uk). The only add-in I've added is "manually sort folders", which I added yesterday.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, when I ran Thunderbird in troubleshooting mode, my new mail showed up without being asked for a password.

I've succeeded (with a lot of outside help - thank you Which?) in transferring my TB profile following the replacement of my HDD with an SSD. Now I'm stuck again, trying to transfer my address book from my saved back-up into the newly-installed copy of TB .

I have followed the clear instructions on this site regarding the need to export the address books as an LDIF file. But when I have selected this format in the box at the bottom of the AB page, and pressed 'Save', I cannot then find the saved file to transfer it to a thumb drive to install it into the fresh copy of TB. Where is it, for goodness sake? What am I missing (apart from a digital brain, of course)?
