Since an update 4-5 days ago, Comcast SMTP server does not accept login from Thunderbird. Comcast help page said it was updating and requires a more secure SSL security. Today the Pop3 server does not allow signin either.

How can I select a more secure encryption that will be compatible with comcast.

Thank you.

Get Messages stops working; need to restart Thunderbird

I've been using Thunderbird for decades. I have Thunderbird set to automatically download messages every 5 minutes. Platform: Computer Win11 Home, Thunderbird 128.10.0esr (64-bit), POP3 connection (also with IMAP connection on a MacOS computer.

But a new issue is now occurring. Every so often now, I realize I haven't received any new email downloads in some time. I click on the Get Messages button (or right-click and select items individually), but nothing happens - no "Host Contacted..." message in the Status Bar. It's like the Get Messages function is completely disabled. It is only when I quit then restart Thunderbird does it successfully establish a connection and download the many queued emails.

Please let me know if this is a known bug, or if there is a way to submit this as a bug. Also let me know of any other information you would need in order to help debug this issue. Thanks!

New computer Ubuntu 24.04 Mate, older Ubuntu 22.04 Cinnamon. Following support transfer directions (open Thunderbird on new PC, close it, paste a copy of older .thunderbird from USB stick to .thunderbird on new, over write), when I open Thunderbird no accounts are shown only the create account screen. I find no update path for older Thunderbird. New PC came with 128 esr but I found a tarball of 115 .18.0, installed it and followed transfer directions with the same results. Seems like the esr version uses a profile ending with esr and ignores my older one. What are my options for transferring 20 years of significant messages? The hard way might be to identify the account specific files in my older profile and copy them into the new esr profile...

I installed the latest version of Thunderbird (128.6.0esr) on my new laptop (17 inch ASUS w/ 40 gb memory and 4 tb hd). I installed my e-mail information (mcarroll@iximd,com with the associated parameters), BUT this Thunderbird will not access my mail. I checked back on the installation and the new Thunderbird wants a "primary password". I was NEVER asked to create one and have not been able to change/create a new "primary password". I have tried deleting the program from the computer, downloading and reinstalling another copy, but end up with the same problem. How do I fix this problem? Or do I have to use Outlook or some other mail program from the internet? mcarroll@iximd.com

I'm in the process of cleaning up Thunderbird e-mail before moving to a new computer. I started with 11,593 e-mails in my Inbox and 7,799 e-mails in my Sent folder. I'm now down to 7,634 in my Inbox and 4,965 in my Sent folder. I've allocated 2 weeks for this process and found that it's taking me about 3 hours per day to meet my daily goals. I'm finding that I'm spending at LEAST half the time responding to "Empty-Trash/Compact-folders" requests. There are times I can delete 50 e-mails at a time without getting a request. Other times I will try to delete ten e-mails and get the request. With the old version of Thunderbird I could literally delete hundreds of e-mails at a time. Can you help? Russ Bukwa Yardley, PA ps. I have intentionally given you specific numbers. Based on my software- and test-engineering experience, I speculate you need to create a stress test to solve this nagging problem.

All the messages in my Inbox disappeared this morning. I have a MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.7.2, my ISP is Gandi, and Thunderbird 115.4.1 is my email. I had clicked on a link in an email from a known source and when I returned to email, all the inbox messages were gone. All other folders (Sent, Drafts, etc) are there and current. My husband and I each have email accounts; his Inbox is all there too. The Inbox emails were not in the Trash, Deleted or Junk folders. I closed Thunderbird and reopened; messages still gone. I closed all apps, shut down the computer and restarted; opened Thunderbird, messages still gone. When I look at the Profile files, I can't tell which one would be my Inbox, but none of the likely candidates seems big enough to hold the, um, 7000+ messages that were there. I have spent the day internet-searching and reading various posts on disappearing messages - most of which are very old and/or for Windows - but I am unable to figure out what to do. Are the messages somewhere in the Profile? Are they on my ISP's server? How can I get them back into the Inbox? Thanks for any help.

I have a Dell XPS 13 with a 13" diagonal 4K (3840x2160) display. On every single email I have to hit Ctrl-++ at least three times to get the email large enough to read - EVERY SINGLE EMAIL!!!! I don't have this issue with other applications, as the screen settings I have were configured to make all other applications comfortable to view without having to make continuous changes.

I saw a post early last year that was archived complaining about the same thing, and the only useful suggestion made was to change the zoom steps to fewer with larger spacing. This is not a solution to the requirement to have to resize every single email!!!! Yes, it does take it from three clicks to maybe one, but it is still every single email!

When will a setting be provided to allow the default zoom level to be set to something other than "1"? This is not rocket science, and clearly several people have bothered to post that they have to deal with this very annoying UI "feature".
