I often look up links/webpages on my phone and then transfer them to Firefox to view later. In the past, when I opened a link in firefox, then dragged the link to a specific folder on the Bookmarks toolbar, it would display the header of the link as the "name" of it. Now, when I transfer a link to a folder on the Bookmarks toolbar, it always sets the URL of the link as the "name" of the bookmark. How do I make it so that when I drag a link to the bookmarks toolbar it saves with the header rather than the URL.

If this helps, I'm using MacOS most of the time.

I've attached an image of what it's like now. The header names are before, the urls are after.

I mainly bookmark pages by clicking and dragging the URL to my bookmarks sidebar as I've always found this to be more convenient. After the last two Firefox updates, this method no longer saves the page title, just the page URL.

In the attached image, the URL and resulting bookmark from dragging it to the sidebar are circled in red. The expected title is circled in orange. An example of an older (correctly titled) bookmark is circled in green. This is not a page specific issue, as it happens on every webpage.

CTRL+D as well as pressing the star icon in the navigation bar still work as expected, bookmarking pages with their correct titles.

Hey!

Early I was able just to drag URL from the address bar and page name / title will appear as the bookmark name. But two or three days ago FF stopped doing that, instead in the bookmark name I get just the URL duplicated.

I feel it may be related with new 111 version that was released around that time and installed on my computer by FF auto-update.

See pic attached, after the `pythonds` bookmark bug started to appear and names are URLs now :(

Moving FIREFOX Bookmarks from WINDOWS 7 HOME to WINDOWS 10. Moving THUNDERBIRD e-mail folders also

Three questions:

How do I move my entire sorted Bookmarks in the latest version of FIREFOX from the WINDOWS 7 PC to the WINDOWS 10 PC. Both are tower style PCs.

Also, how do I do a similar task for THUNDERBIRD (latest version)?

Last week, I started my WINDOWS 8.1 (tower) PC, opened FIREFOX. It displayed a suggestion to upgrade to the latest release of FIREFOX. I clicked on it, and it made the upgrade. However, I've lost all the Bookmarks at the left side of the screen AND the 'Home' icon at the top is gone also. Please explain how to get these back.

A comment: When you publish these upgrades for both programs, WHY does these upgrades change a person's previous settings? I spent an hour the other day trying to put my Bookmarks (on the 8.1 PC) back to where they previously appeared on the left side. This is VERY annoying, to say the least. Thank you.

I am a member of the local library and I sometimes want to search the catalogue or reserve a book from home using my laptop. I have Googled how to put the menbership number and pin as a book mark and it is successful-but only for a short time . The next time I go to log on automatically it doesn't work and I have to input it manually.

I have been to the library and got staff there to put the details in and it works when I am there at the library but fails when I am home.(2 very capable library people tried and both eventually failed)

My library membership number is very long and it is tedious to enter it every time-can you help please? Thanks Peter

Hi Forum Folke,

This switch from Windows to Linux has been mostly disastrous, with my exported Tbird profile zipfile turning out to be corrupt and not openable, and now I can't import my saved bookmarks file either. I can open it and read the list, I can even open it in Firefox and click on any link in there and it opens in Firefox, but they simply will NOT import.

If I understand the process correctly, go to bookmarks > manage bookmarks > Import and Backup, "Import bookmarks from html..." If I click on this, it opens the file manager, and I navigate to my backup drive and click on the "bookmarks_3_24_23.html" file, then click on "open." This *should* start the import process, and then they should show up in my bookmarks, no? What it does is exactly nothing at all. The window freezes for a moment (unresponsive to any clicks), then does respond to clicks, but there are no imported bookmarks anywhere.

If I enable the bookmarks toolbar, the first button is "Import bookmarks," and if I click on that, it just tells me "No programs that contain bookmarks, history, .... can be found."

I tried dragging and dropping the file into a new tab, and it added "bookmarks_3_24_23..." to the bookmarks toolbar. I can click on it and the list opens in the tab, and I can scroll down and find and open links... but that's obtuse and awkward. I'd much rather have Firefox import the bookmarks and display them normally.

What am I missing here? I've done this before without any issues, doing exactly the same things, but this time it's a no-go. I'm starting to wonder if I've just got a buggy install of Linux ( Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa with the Cinnamon 4.8.6 desktop.)

Just went to get the current version of Firefox, and noticed that it's saying: "Updates disabled by your system administrator." Think this would apply to importing bookmarks as well?? Anyway, the version is "Firefox for Linux Mint mint-001 - 1.0" up at the top of the "about" window, and below that is "111.0 (64-bit)."

Any ideas are very much appreciated!

I had all my bookmarks saved on Firefox on my laptop, and I bought a new laptop, and signed in to Firefox, and I thought that all my bookmarks would automatically populate onto my new laptop's Firefox browser. Am I mistaken that that is a feature that it has? If not, how can I make that happen.

Thank you for your help

Unfortunately my main desktop computer decided it no longer wants to boot up. I was using Firefox as my browser and would like to know if there is some way I can get all my bookmarks back. I have a second desktop computer and was wondering if I opened a Firefox account on that computer and then signed in with the same email and password, would I be able to see all my bookmarks or am I simply out of luck?

Thank you for your help--Matt

I reinstalled Win10, clean install. Reinstalled Firefox, v88 and imported my bookmarks (.json). Took a while (36.4Mo) but they got imported and I got to sort the latest bookmarks them into folders and tags while I transferred files from a hard drive. Trimmed them to 31 Mo and saved a backup. Exited firefox. Later I launch firefox to install addons and notice all my latest bookmarks have vanished. All my tags are gone too.

When I check to restore my backup, I have the choice between - today's automated backup (11 Mo; 110.000 items) 100.000 items, that is, half of my bookmarks. - ... or my manual save I did. Restoring my manual save returns the bookmarks and tags. But they disappear when I exit firefox. Sitting for half a hour for my bookmarks to load each time I launch firefox is not a solution. I estimate there's 70k to 100k links and 1k tags missing.

I have one only profile. Fresh, latest FF, no addons. No clue too.

Good day,

It would appear that there was an update in the past 24hrs because my tabs appear different (rounder). However, now my bookmarks drop-down menu is all different and messed-up, and I can't delete the things added. Please see the screenshot enclosed...

I now have "Manage Bookmarks" at the top - which is fine. I have "Other Bookmarks" - which I thought I killed a LONG time ago. I have an ADDITIONAL "Manage Bookmarks" at the bottom - which seems redundant, and excessive.

I've done my homework, tried tinkering with old solutions. I cannot delete, move, rename, hide or change any of these. I would ideally like to remove everything except the 1st "Manage Bookmarks" at the top. That seems reasonable.

Thanks for your time and help! William (FF89)

The thing I liked best about Firefox was the text of the links for the bookmarks were close together, so I could see a LOT of them with little space. That has changed in the recent upgrade. How do I revert to the older version? Or, how do I configure the newer version so that the bookmarks are listed more tightly packed together.

I hate that this June Firefox update has double or triple spaced my Bookmarks drop-down menu. I had just the right amount of folders and links that could expand to the bottom of the screen and now it goes well off the bottom of the screen and requires scrolling back up and down to use the links I use for the office on the 24" screen. Worse, my Firefox syncs with my laptop at home so on that 15" screen its even an even worse problem. I can't find a way to close them all up the way they used to be. There was nothing wrong with the browser as it was. If anyone wanted a new look, they could select different themes rather than force this arbitrary update on all of us.

Recently FFox completely collapsed on me, no response to clicks anywhere. So I downloaded and reinstalled the program, only to find exactly the same happening.

So I decided on a completely clean install. Before I did that i installed Opera <ptooh> and imported my passwords and bookmarks from FFox.

Haven't as yet found a way of re-importing those items exported, but that's a worry for another day.

First problem is that even when I add Bookmarks using either Ctrl+D or the fancy start to the right of the address bar nothing gets added to Bookmarks.

Recent Bookmarks ?? Nothing

Manage Bookmarks ??? Not a thing.

Next problem is that despite being very active here there and everywhere on the web over the last few days since re-install - I HAVE NO HISTORY !!

Clicking on the three bars top right, and then on History >> Recent History gives me zilch. Nada. Nothing at all.

It took me days to eradicate almost every sign of Edge from this computer, but I'm starting to think that maybe I might like to try it, so please offer me some assistance with my FFox problems.

If I open a page and immediately click one of my Bookmark Bar shortcuts to a different page, the current page reloads instead. Some pages take a second or longer to load, and I don't want to wait to click a different shortcut. I can also click the X to stop the current page loading and then other shortcuts work fine. It's when the current page is still loading which ANY other bookmark is clicked that Firefox merely reloads the page that I'm already on. This is really annoying. It will do it continuously if I keep clicking on any shortcut when the page loads. The same page, the original page. Forever.
